I hate when companies do this. I’m pretty damn liberal but I even consider this censorship. Just worried that someone might be offended.

I applaud the WB. Whenever you go watch looney toons you’ll get a nice pop up that says something along the lines of “This was a product of it’s time. The views expressed here are outdated and wrong. We feel to hide them would be to minimize the struggles people had. Please watch these and think of how far we have come as a society” or something.

And that’s how Michael Jackson’s episode or anything else should be handled. Put a notice up at the beginning, but to me it’s the same as book burning. We need to remember the good and the bad.

And iirc Michael Jackson’s accusers admitted it was fabricated anyway

D+ does just warnings too on some shows/movies. I know they do for the asian cat in The Aristocats.

I feel the same way. We all know when something’s old and should be more than capable of watching it through that lens.

I’m used to seeing warnings/censorship on newer media for older audiences who might find it uncomfortable, but censoring older media for newer audiences will always seem backwards to me.

      Relevant part:

In March 2019, shortly before the Disney–Fox deal was finalized, following renewed allegations of sexual abuse against Jackson, the episode was pulled from circulation. As a result, the episode is unavailable on Disney+ and the post-2019 re-releases of the season 3 DVD, but is still present on Google Play and the official YouTube listing.

        That’s a weird reason.

I honestly thought it was going to be about rights infringement. I feel like there was some weird issue why he couldn’t actually be credited/on the show officially.

It does say he couldn’t sing because of contractual reasons. They hired a voice alike for that.

I’m a huge TCM fan and they still show the entirety of older films. They also have special mini episodes explaining what the thought process was during those dark times. If we censor them, we can not learn the error of our ways.
