Yes, I could see that happening for broad topics. Most of the hashtags I follow are less broad, like #cityname, #backpacking and things like that. Most of my feed is follows of users I have interest in and it took a lot of effort to find those accounts.
I have not noticed hashtags I follow changing much at all. Can you give an example of this?
The great thing about Lemmy is the users are in full control to make it whatever we want it to be. We aren’t dependent on some profit seeking corporate board of douche bags to make arbitrary decisions in the name of the almighty dollar (or whatever your currency)
All of these providers need to cease operating in the UK - it makes no sense to compromise security for the rest of the world just because one country wants to make it easier to spy on citizens.
Oh, I don’t think they are leftist at all. My point was that Russia dominated the Soviet Union (do you agree with that?) and the fall of communism has resulted in what we see now, and it is not pretty, with business, money and politics very much intertwined.
Agree totally. Communism is one of those things that cannot work in the real world. Someone above said it well - you go so far left that you end devolving into fascism and that is apparent with what is going on in Russia right now. Money begets power begets more money and on and on…
“Tankies” is slang for communists who align with the philosophy of authoritarian rule, like the Soviet Union who used violence to keep countries under their control in check.
Sealioning is something I saw a lot on Reddit, but not so much here - it is when someone responds continuously asking questions, trying to seem like they are engaged, but in reality they are trolling you. Like when you say something like “The sky is so blue today” and the come back with “That is interesting, do you have a link to some information that I can learn more about that?”
Penneys also stopped accepting coupons and it turned out that most of the older ladies who made up the lion’s share of the clientele loved coupons (who would have thought?). They also hired a retail exec from Apple (Ron Johnson) and he embarked on disasterous changes to stores and other things that regular customers hated. This is a great article that is titled “The J.C. penney Disaster Timeline” from 2012: https://www.businessinsider.com/the-jcpenney-disaster-timeline-how-ex-apple-guru-ron-johnson-is-destroying-the-company-2012-6
Looks like a California Poppy. Great picture!
FYI - the Lemmy devs fixed a serious bug this week that was affecting database performance and wefwef has been working MUCH better the past couple of days. I am trying other clients but keep coming back to wefwef because it provides basically the same experience on my Android phone and on my iPad.
I’m sorry, but any mod that gets a message threatening them like that and stays on has zero self respect. It’s a volunteer job for god’s sake!
This is why we don’t want Reddit to completely die - we need all the A-holes to stay there and wallow in their misery.
Yes, it is https://opencollective.com/mastodonworld (according to the link on lemmy.world main page)
I switched from Evernote to Joplin several years ago and haven’t looked back. I had over 8,000 notes in Evernote and now have over 11,000 notes in Joplin. I’m using free Dropbox storage for syncing (3GB out of 6GB free) and run Windows, iPad and Android clients. I haven’t missed Evernote at any point.
I’m definitely not disagreeing with you, but Lemmy has grown so large since the original “tankies” started Lemmy.ml that I don’t think it is really an issue for the larger community. I’ve only been here for a month or so but I have not seen many (if any) communistic related posts on the feeds, and if they are trying to spread their leftist messages they are not doing a very good job of it.
I have found Lemmy.world to be the most active platform, so I wanted to help out with server costs, thus the $2 per month. I have also donated to Ernest at Kbin and the Beehaw folks as well. I’m not going back to Reddit, so I want these communities to thrive and feel I need to pitch in the cost of a Latte every month to help out. Having said that, if I ever get the feeling that I am donating to some authoritarian cause I will stop donating immediately.
Just throw $2 a month toward Lemmy on Patreon! Well worth it.
Android user here wondering about 15 watts being considered fast charging??
