try ffmpeg or handbrake. It converts the video to another format after its downloaded. Also the process uses a lot of CPU time and I assume battery life. I don’t know how reasonable that solution is for your situation but try it anyway.
I use my old device for anime torrenting but sadly most mkv vids dont run on it:(
