Windows doesn’t even have a proper terminal lol
Windows doesn’t even have a proper terminal lol
It’s one of the reasons I absolutely hate Windows. Nearly every OS uses some form of Unix. Android is Linux, iOS is based on XNU which is FreeBSD, macOS is also XNU, Linux is unix-like, all BSDs are Unix, even the OS used in the PS4 is FreeBSD and thus Unix. Windows is the only thing that’s different.
Some Tailscale clients are open-source and you can self-host a Headscale server
Personally, I really like Garuda Linux and CachyOS for Gaming. You can also check out ChimeraOS or uBlue Bazzite if you want something closer to the Steam Deck.
Linux Mint Debian Edition and Fedora are some general recommendations of mine. Nobara is a fork of Fedora optimized for Gaming.
Linux isn’t Unix, it’s Unix-like
Maybe it’s just because I’m fundamentally more of a console user than a windowing-system user, but to me a Unix-based OS is always going to be a winner compared to Windows.
I absolutely agree
But, if you want to laugh at OSes, laugh at classic MacOS
Or some weird old Unixes like AIX
2023, the year of Big Tech companies restricting their users in every single possible way. But why is 2023 not the year of users finally waking up and switching away from this proprietary garbage?
Back when I used macOS, I liked an app called SnippetsLab. Nowadays, I just throw them in Emacs Org files. Emacs is actually very handy for this, you get syntax highlighting in the code block, you can execute the code right from inside your Emacs environment and there’s even alpha support for lsp-mode inside of Org code blocks.
If you do neofetch > .bashrc
you will simply have a broken shell config. To add neofetch
to the bashrc you need to use echo.
Just use Invidious with LibRedirect. If everyone spoofs their user-agent to Firefox, Google will say ‘No one uses Firefox’

Fuck Google
Use Invidious or Piped to bypass the ads, tracking as well as the slow down. You can combine it with LibRedirect to automatically redirect all YouTube links to Invidious or Piped. Works like a dream. Another option is FreeTube, it’s a desktop client for YouTube that can also use the Invidious API.
Google hardware actually gives you the most freedom, no other Android phone allows you to install a custom operating system, relock the bootloader and use Android Verified Boot, which is a fundamental part of the Android security model, with a custom signing key defined by the custom OS. It also includes the Titan M2 secure element which gives you great security through features like Android StrongBox, the Weaver API and it even has Insider Attack Resistance meaning Google, even if they get a court order to do so, can’t comprise the Titan M. Firmware can only be loaded to the chip after proper user authentication. Yes, it’s a little ironic, but Google hardware gives you the most freedom over your device.
Pro tip: Infect your Windows friends with malware, then get them to switch to Linux

Use GrapheneOS with F-Droid or Obtanium, that’s the only way to actually get some freedom on a mobile device nowadays…
Wow, this is really cool!
I use them for privacy reasons. They will register the domain name under their company name, you don’t have to give out any data about yourself whatsoever. You can pay anonymously with crypto currencies like Monero. Njalla was actually founded by one of the guys who also founded The Pirate Bay.
Nah, Windows always does that on its own. No intervention required.
