the protostar can replicate a whole shuttlecraft so sky is the limit (not really I guess)

the characters get nice optimistic arcs, but the world sure doesnt

synthetic life is where the Culture series (fantastic scifi and highly recommend the audiobooks. can be read in any order but Excession and Consider Phlebas are exquisite) really makes the federation look like a bunch of conservative weirdos

maybe I’ve consumed more and more scifi over the years to compare to or maybe the later releases of trek have lowered the average in my mind but I can’t help but see trek in general as solidly mid now

The Marvelization of Star Trek is complete, or just beginning

I remain of the opinion that New Trek has some of the most annoying sci-fi fan service outside of Star Wars. given every opportunity there’s references to other trek things crammed in everywhere

10/10 characters and casting, but wtf is going on with the writing

my expectation is that since they described it as being linked to kelvin it’s going to have jj abrams kelvin vibes instead of new trek vibes

unfortunately it’s kelvin timeline so … ugh
