Hallucinations are an issue for generative AI. This is a classification problem, not gen AI. This type of use for AI predates gen AI by many years. What you describe is called a false positive, not a hallucination.

For this type of problem you use AI to narrow down a set to a more manageable size. e.g. you have tens of thousands of images and the AI identifies a few dozen that are likely what you’re looking for. Humans would have taken forever to manually review all those images. Instead you have humans verifying just the reduced set, and confirming the findings through further investigation.

I prefer to buy books to own. But books are expensive, so if a particular book feels like it’s not something worth the money to keep, I just borrow it from the library instead. That’s literally money saved for me. Yeah, you could argue that if the library wouldn’t have been an option then maybe I wouldn’t have bought the book at all, so no difference there, but it’s still the difference between reading the book for free or not reading the book at all.

I go to the library every week with my kids. We usually have 20-30 books checked out at a time. 5 books per week is nothing for a whole family.

Just heard the story. Apparently it cost 200m by the point they presented the alpha and it was absolute crap. So Sony put another 200m into outsourcing the work asap to fix it.

I was thinking visually. But even sound-wise I don’t think most people would hear a cello and think that’s a violin (even if they don’t know it’s a cello). But I’ve listened to a lot of Apocalyptica and 2Cellos, and I also grew up on cartoons that feature tubas frequently for comedic effect, so maybe I’m just biased.

I think non-musicians can tell a cello from a violin and a tuba from a trumpet.

Just off the top of my head, some of the bands I’ve seen live before moving to the US: Iron Maiden, Manowar, Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, Rammstein, Uriah Heep, Volbeat, Mastodon, Alice in Chains.

All the bands I’ve seen live after moving to the US: Laibach, Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Both were a decade ago.

It’s not. If you’re really into pop culture and you frequently make such references then someone who is not will have a hard time communicating with you.

It’s not about internet culture being bad, it’s about the communication gap between people with very different cultural references.

On one had, responding like that is definitely a sign that it’s not going to work. On the other hand, that’s a perfectly normal feeling for a person who doesn’t live their life on the internet.

Yeah, I remember when I first got ZSNES and suddenly I had access hundreds of games I wasn’t able to play before. Played through Super Mario RPG, spent so much time in Harvest Moon, and finally played the first Final Fantasy games and Legend of Zelda.

I didn’t have any consoles, so couldn’t play a lot of those games. But on PC (and on 8-bit computer before that), I played hundreds of games. There were no copyright laws in my country when I was a kid and my dad got everything he could get his hands on. In the 8-bit era he collected over 40 cassette tapes (8-10 games on each). Then when we got the PC there were boxes and boxes of floppy disks (I remember Need for Speed was on over 30 disks). Then CDs came out and I remember one CD that had 200 games on it. And as my dad collected, I tried every single one of them.

That just goes to show the sheer amount of quality gaming that there was.

I made that top 10 list years ago from some silly Facebook game that was going around at the time. The hardest part was picking just 10. My initial list had about 70 games on it.
