Star Trek is one of the things I still hang onto as optimistic about the future. We can make a better world for everyone and overcome racism, capitalism, transphobia, etc. We can build something better and reach for the stars. And that’s always been the message. The characters have advanced technology like ships and teleporters, but what’s really advanced is how they are as people. They’re curious, educated, accepting people who want to explore the universe for the sake of it.

I also hang onto the X-Men. That was also important to me growing up, seeing how the characters could come together to defend themselves against hatred. I grew up in a really conservative area so I’m always gonna be grateful to Star Trek and X-Men (and later all sorts of books) for keeping me sane as a kid

Yeah this is why I didn’t do great with programming in college. I didn’t find any part of it interesting.

It's still weird in the context of humans made the show Star Trek. I actually like Neelix and Voyager but it was still a little weird. It felt like those times the writers want to inject their fetish into the script, or like in anime there will be a 10,000 year old vampire who looks 9.

They should have laid a long garden hose all the way to mt doom and pushed the ring though it with a bicycle pump

Thomas Riker was created through a complete freak accident involving a distortion field that reflected a transporter beam in the exact right way to duplicate Will Riker. It’s not something that be done easily at will.

Now cloning and memory implantation are completely possible as well, like that one TNG episode where they make a clone of Kahless or that one very dumb ENT episode where there’s a clone of Trip. I’m not sure, but cloning is probably illegal by the time of Voyager, since genetic augmentation is completely illegal throughout the Federation.

But the main problem is that nothing other than killing Tuvix would have satiated Janeway’s bloodlust. For real, she’s like the most evil person in that entire show.

I’d suggest going through a list of the best TNG episodes

A lot of nerds became doctors and aerospace scientists and stuff because of Star Trek

Trip could squeeze an extra warp speed out of an engine by wrapping the coils in baling wire then spitting on it

yeah it’s an issue with the Hexbear embed images I’ve seen in a lot of federated instances. I’m hoping one day it’s resolved.
