It's not that easy to steer clear of. I've bought a couple of books on other topics from Amazon and realized when they arrived that they weren't worth the cost of the paper they were printed on. It's easy enough to notice it's bullshit, it's harder to avoid spending money and time on them in the first place.
I don't believe that for a second. Some specific apps are only on one platform or the other but every app has a ton of alternatives that do the exact same thing.

That wasn't an attack on you specifically. Most people don't need to know nor care if they can unlock the bootloader. We need some kind of federal mandate/law/whatever that says that they have to be unlocked and people can do what they want with the $1k+ devices they buy. It's not even a question with a pc, you can even buy prebuilt systems with no OS or with linux installed if you choose.
This is why I have been a so called Google fanboy/super fan for what feels like a couple of decades. First nexus and now pixel because I'm guaranteed to be able to install whatever flavor of android exists for whatever phone I am using (if I so choose), I haven't played with roms in years but it's an option if I feel like it and I'm considering doing it for my work phone, get that shit running as lean as possible, no need for 99% of the Google apps that come with it.
But, that wasn't your only choice for a device. Android runs on basically anything and you have plenty of options for devices that let you do what you want with it.
Basically, the bootloader being locked is a manufacturer problem and not an android problem. Buy a different phone, smartphones have fully matured at this point. Grab a pixel 7 or 7 pro for a couple of hundred bucks and make that device your biotch.
This is why I never had anything more than an original ipod classic. Android let's you do whatever the fuck you want with your own device. Don't like having Google all over your phone? You can install roms with no Google services and use other app stores.
I’d rather just run my own service for my own use. I have a nas and I use vlc on my TV to watch anything I want. I’m currently working on grabbing all of the shows that I want to re-watch and are available in their entirety, homeland, the wire, Dr who, Archer, etc. I’ll also be keeping an eye on the paramount and others for shows that look interesting and add them to my rss feed.

The lowend plan I’m using is $9/month and doesn’t offer many options aside from sftp access, 3 or 4 torrent apps you can switch between and a couple of other things. The higher end plans offer a shit load more like plex, etc. They will send a dmca notice and then like 12 hours later delete the offending content. I’ve learned that you can just restart the torrent and re-download it and all is well going forward.
There are a ton of other options out there for seedboxes.
No data cap anywhere that I am aware of. Despite being in what I call country’ish we have gigabit down from them but the upload is capped at like 35-40 megs.
There are 2 companies running fiber in my city but I live in the outskirts in what I call country’ish, no clue if/when they make it to my street, there are only like 20 houses if that on my road.
Or, I could pay the $9/month for a server that has a 10gig connection to the rest of the world and do my part by leaving them seeding for longer than I would otherwise.

I found a seedbox provider that is fairly cheap and works well. I have a long standing rss feed for new shows so next step is going to be getting it setup to auto download for me. I can do it locally but spectrum is hard core with the dmca notices and I don’t want to risk losing my account.

Right but that coating can come off with an abrasive cloth. The oleophobic coating doesn’t last forever and between our hands, pockets, etc, it eventually wears down. Polishing the screen with an abrasive fabric (even if it doesn’t feel abrasive to you) only hastens that wear.

This shows that you don’t actually understand how these hardened glasses actually work. They can most definitely still be scratched even if it’s micro abrasions. Plus the oleophobic coating doesn’t protect against scratched, it helps prevent fingerprints and that coating along with any others will get worn down even faster.
It may not look scratched to your eye but unless you are only using pure cotton fabric and not cleaning the screen while wearing any of the moisture wicking work out shirts that are full of plastic, it’s most definitely scratched by now. Especially if you have been using the same phone for 5 years.
You’ve always “needed” a soft cloth to clean glass of any kind. This is not a downgrade, it’s doing the best you can to preserve things.
I wonder how many people in these threads also use vinegar to clean their led/lcd tvs and monitors? If you are, stop it. It’s also not a downgrade to not use acid.
As I said in another comment. Most clothing now has plastic in it, that is way more abrasive than pure cotton.
I think I got ny first blackberry around the same time. Still have my 9700 around here somewhere and last time I checked it still worked. Maybe I notice it more but the shirts I wear don’t clean my glasses or my phone very well, all they do is move the oils around and it isn’t as clear as it can be.
