Invite me to the jam, I swear I can whistle well
Doesn’t Bilbo make actual coffee for the dwarves at the start of the Hobbit?
While we don’t have another total one in the UK until 2090, we’ve got a near-total one in August 2026. About 90-95% depend on where in the country you are, with Cornwall getting the best of it again. Spain and Iceland get the totality of it, so you could take a short trip to some pretty nice places and catch it along the way
The Expanse’s approach, pre-gates, is pretty cool. Someone invents an engine that provides similar thrust to modern rockets but which can burn pretty much indefinitely. As such, ships can accelerate constantly at 0.3-1 G to provide “gravity” for passengers. At the same time, doing this actually gets you around the Solar System pretty damn fast as well, with journeys between planets typically taking between a day and a week. That limits you to one solar system, but you can do a lot with a whole solar system
We can indeed print steel with direct metal laser sintering. I think that the object needs heat treatment afterwards, though to be fair it is almost ten years since I properly read up on it and things have probably advanced since then

I wouldn’t even mind them as much if they showed you who posted the short before you watched it. There are a few creators I like enough that I’d watch shorts by, but I’ve got no way to know it’s by them
You’d damn well hope that the richest person in the world would pay the most tax
I picked up Tunic after wanting it for quite some time. I’m enjoying it a great deal. I was sure that it couldn’t possibly be that much like Dark Souls when it has that art style but, uhh, no, turns out it’s the opening is basically exactly Dark Souls right down to being told to go ring two mysterious magic bells in opposite directions from where you currently are
As a fellow scared-of-the-ocean-ist, I actually feel like it kinda adds to Subnautica. The game is meant to have some horror. We just get a bit extra
It’s good! It depends on what you liked about 2 though, since they did shift a lot of the points of focus for 3. I personally like that they leaned into the roleplaying aspect of it. Managing a large realm is now a much more active task than it was in 2. It’s a shame that stuff like nomads and merchant republics aren’t playable yet, but I do think that the feudal gameplay is substantially better.
Hey @mysoulishome just so you know, it is super easy to identify this school based on this post alone. I don’t imagine anyone wishes you any trouble but you might have accidentally shared more than you meant to
I’ve been playing Paradox games, so I’m probably going straight to the Hague and deserving it
I think they just meant the logos are terrible, rather than the software
Alright my plans for the evening got cancelled so I decided to have a go at working this out. Methodology, a term I am using somewhat loosely, was to go down wikipedia’s list of largest empires, ignore each one that was already completely covered (the four big caliphates and several Chinese dynasties in particular), then take their peak territory from Geacron. Geacron isn’t an ideal source here, not least because the only way to “export” from it without paying money is print screen, but it’s good enough for these purposes. I also didn’t bother filling in the entire map because a couple of places were basically just going to come down to whichever country had them today due to how difficult to conquer they have historically been. Priority in overlaps is given to the larger empire. The result is this: https://i.imgur.com/kLNjpSm.png
On here we have:
This list leaves Western Sahara, Liberia, Sweden, Slovakia, Nepal, Bhutan, Papua New Guinea, and Antarctica for a total of 25 countries (or maybe 27 if you add Norway and Chile for maximum Antarctic coverage. I suppose you could also argue that the Treaty of Torsedillas granted half of Antarctica each to Spain and Portugal, not that either ever actually controlled it). Possibly also some islands, especially in the Pacific, but the map isn’t in a high enough resolution to tell. The most contested areas are the Levant and Central Asia. Some big empires that aren’t on the list include every Persian empire, the Ottomans, and Alexander’s empire.
Please, nobody look at my combined hours played on those games
I feel like overlaps should be allowed otherwise certain regions (Iraq and its surroundings come to mind) will make it impossible
