I hear you. I just ordered pizza from a local pizzeria we like via their app. It’s one random hole in the wall pizzeria and I need their app to order a pie. In that regard, I completely agree. It’s out of control.

What’s all the hate for UG about? I’ve been using it for years, as a casual guitar player, to get tabs of songs I want to learn. Happy to pay $15 year for the service. I know they annoy you constantly to get premium if you are a free user but for the price, I don’t know of a better service for tabs.
Thankfully I don’t see too much of that. I actually find a general lack of consideration. People talking on speakerphone, on a quiet bus commuting home from the city. No one wants to hear your conversation. I don’t get the mentality.
I’m a guy and I’ve experienced the same thing. I don’t get it at all. Aren’t you at all embarrassed to be conversing on the phone while dropping bombs?! And no one else sitting in a stall wants to hear your conversation! Just scroll Lemmy and leave us alone!
Very happy with the app too. Whenever there is something it’s missing or a bug, I have to remind myself the app is literally in its infancy. Imagine what it will be like a month from now…
Agreed. It’s a smaller community and easier to feel seen. I’ve probably already posted more here than I ever have on Reddit.

I hear your point - you’re not wrong. But I believe that any service that you enjoy is worth paying for. Services cost money and at the end of the day, it’s a for profit company. That said, as a very casual viewer I’ll do what I can to avoid paying, since, to your point, they make plenty of money off of us. If I were a heavy YT user, I’d probably just pay to avoid dealing with all of the ads.
Premium just seems like too expensive a proposition for the casual viewer. I use an adblocker but if they made premium five bucks a month I’d probably just do it. And I think many people wouldn’t mind paying that to avoid ads.
I wish. I was late to the party on that one. But in general, I pay way more than I should for a lifetime one time payment just to avoid a subscription. Can’t stand it.
