I never considered this might be why I’m good at our system design and maintenance - I do a little bit of everything and every day is different!

Yeah let’s just salt the earth
Ah yes, forbidden snacks
Bed sheet suspenders. Dumb problem, stupidly cheap, horribly made, and ABSOLUTELY fixed the friggin sheets being yanked off the corner of the bed twice a night by my tumble-dry-medium sleeper of a spouse.
When they finally broke after almost 2 years I sewed some that’ll last 10 years and I don’t regret them at all.
It was my understanding that defederation was a one way thing? So if instance A defederates instance B, A will not see anything from B but B could still see things from A?
Honestly, yeah - to me it feels like Reddit, but better at Reddit’s core values.
Anonymity -> flexible screen names, usernames per instance, no karma, privacy focused community
Community -> smaller, focused instances coming together like broader subreddits with their own rules and ethos
Diversity -> decentralized federated content has the potential to be even more broad
Discussion focus -> sort by active rocks
No incentive for enshittification or vector for monolithic control/collapse it’s decentralized, and even if one server goes full monetized no one else has to, you can move instances without losing access to the broader ecosystem.
I also feel like there will be less (but not zero) incentive for bots/repost accounts, “karma farming”, trolling, and astroturfing generally with the simple removal of that damn karma system.
So I’m here to stay and I’m bugging my partner to join also - their main hobby already has an instance of it’s own, and I feel like they could really shake things up over there!
Love the idea that his secretary/assistant was just babysitting him and stopping him from doing monumentally stupid (corporately speaking) stuff without thinking.
Same, but I’m mostly waiting for Sync for Lemmy. I know it wasn’t the most popular 3rd party Reddit app, but it sure was my favorite.
The announcement in their app for Reddit today was the whole reason I’m here! :D
I bought timer lid containers for my pills, ADHD and otherwise (believe you me, you do NOT want to accidentally take a second dose of migraine preventatives!). Now the cap shows exactly how long since I last opened the bottle, and I don’t have to go through the trouble of [not remembering to] refill pill organizers.
If I’m not sure in the morning I can just look at the cap and know for sure!
And then forget if I checked, and check again, etc. as one does.
