I retired KaiWinnBot on “the other site” when Louise Fletcher died, but I’m really tempted to bring her back for a limited run. Key word is tempted. There’s not a dedicated DS9 community yet, and that was the only sub “she” would pop in to (just like her character in the show). Plus, the code I wrote to bring her to life is really, really awful, inefficient, and still requires manual selection/approval for her replies.
So, while I’m tempted, I probably won’t be resurrecting her anytime soon.
Please don’t. I’ve been hating this character with a passion since the 90s and I need to skip all episodes with her each and every time I watch DS9 again.
I’m sorry to hear that, my child. Perhaps your perspective would be more malleable if you were to seek wisdom from the Prophets.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. She just reminds me of literally every church lady I had to endure growing up. The similarities in demeanor and attitude are uncanny, and Fletcher played the part to perfection.
So I definitely get where you’re coming from, but I am able to appreciate her portrayal because it’s so much of a “take that”.
Yes, the performance was top notch, I just really can’t stand the character. ^^

And that’s exactly why I love (to hate) her so much. lol. She reminds me of some really awful people that were considered by the community to be “good people” only because they were really religious.
The fact that Winn is a reflection of those “good” people, while lots of viewers hate her with a passion, is what moves her into the “love to hate” category for me.
That is all to say if you didn’t hate her, I wouldn’t like her nearly as much.

How do you manage that? Isn’t she central to a very important plotline in the later seasons? Do you just ignore the last few episodes or what?
