For very confused Americans, Canada celebrates Thanksgiving in October not November. Our Thanksgiving also doesn't have the association with pilgrims and natives either.

Still thankful for y'all.

Gobble gobble. For those who will be eating turkey today, eat a lil extra for me. Haven't had a Thanksgiving dinner in years and I'm dying a little on the inside. 💙

Now I want to see a version of the Big Lebowski with Spock instead of the Dude.

"No Capt, you are not wrong. You are however, an asshole."

[nerd alert] In 'Charlie X' episode of TOS, Kirk asks the ship's cooks to try and make the rations look like real turkeys for Thanksgiving. Later the cooks report that the turkeys came out as real birds, bones and all.

For the record. It's not my fault that the writers on this episode didn't know about the replicators, and I have no idea how Charlie would have known what real turkey would taste like.

Actually I can answer why that happened. Replicators didn't exist at the time. They were an invention in between TOS and TNG! In DSC, SNW and TOS they use 'Food Synthesizers'. Replicators can create matter from energy by 'simply' converting the two but food synthesizers would use nutrient stock and protein slurries and such to sort of '3D print' a meal. You'd be starting with organic input that was then rebuilt. Fresh food that was prepared by hand tasted far better which is why you have Pike cooking in his kitchen and Chefs onboard the Enterprise.

I wish TOS writers had kept leaning into hilariously absurd moment like that. It would have made the show better. It's part of what makes Star Gate and The Orville so lovable.

It's also why I was the only person I knew who actually liked Team Knight Rider. Because there would be random announcements over the home base intercom that would indiscriminately break whatever tension there was with a report of something stupid that just happened somewhere on the ship.

"Technicians, please report to the rec room. The jukebox is stuck on Moon River again."

"Fire control team, report to the kitchen… just in case." Or something to that effect.

If you've never seen it, watch 'Buckaroo Banzai.' The entire movie is filled with things like that. If you're really ambitious, find the special edition DVD with onscreen commentary. In the original, you see the hero carrying a briefcase with him as he bards the experimental Jet Car. The commentary informs us that he's carrying Einstein's brain and a tuna fish sandwich.

    Spock: "Ass…"

    steps closer to Kirk

    Spock: "You are… an ass."

    Kirk, smiling: "Yes."

Fun fact. Canadian Thanksgiving originated in the old CofE harvest thanksgiving but got secularized, made statutory and fixed on the second Monday in October.

The weird thing is that I know that. I'm not sure why I put that in the text. My fault for not eating or sleeping lately. My apologies and edited.

No, that's not true. We call Thanksgiving Thanksgiving. They're two completely different holidays. We don't celebrate Columbus day at all here in Canada. There's literally no connection at all outside of the date being the same and even that wasn't part of the original holiday.

Also not sure why you're trying to @ the entire community in your comments.

Ok? You're responding to a deleted comment, and it's already been explained to you that Canadians do not celebrate Columbus Day. It's literally Thanksgiving Day.

@WarmSoda if its deleted, than there's something wrong with your server sending the delete command over ActivityPub.

And its still Columbus Day…I don't care what your government claims.

Absolutely. It's not your server that you already said had issues, it's someone else's server.
And it's obviously not your government that's wrong, it's the other person's government that doesn't even recognize the holiday.

Everyone else's fault but yours, amiright

@WarmSoda all governments are wrong. When did I ever say libranet.de has issues? I indicated that Frendica works differently from lemmy, but different doesn't mean wrong.
