They were likely laughing at your bad luck, not at you personally. My group all laughs together about ridiculously bad luck that ruins otherwise plausible outcomes. Although you said kids, so it's possible they were laughing at you too. Kids can be like that. Find another group and give it another go. It's tons of fun.
