I’m rude to debt collectors who call me trying to collect debts from people who happen to once have had the same phone number as I once did. Like, I’m not who you’re trying to collect from, fuck off.
I’m also rude to generally any scam caller, they’re some of the few people I take great pleasure in telling off because I can get away with it. They’re scammy assholes, what’re they gonna do? Cry to the authorities? Knowing that they’re pieces of shit who scam people out of money? Good fucking luck.
How do you tell off scam callers? Literally 100% of the calls I receive are recordings. I usually hang up within 5 seconds, though.
Why even pick up? If they aren’t a number I recognize, they can leave a message.
Pretty much what I do now. Except I have no voicemail.
I used to get cold calls about selling my house, daily. I finally started just waiting for them to confirm that is what they are calling about and tell them I want 5 times the market value. They now only call like once or twice every 6 months.
There was this asshole who wanted to buy my grandparents’ house after they both died. He’d text my sister, brother, dad, maybe even my mom. Fortunately not me. It’s so insidious because he probably got all the info from my grandfather’s obituary. He just needed our names and town and then could look up the phone numbers on those “people search” sites or phone books. The house hadn’t even been put on sale yet, and we were not the executors. What kind of sicko reads the obits so they can buy a house? And doesn’t even bother to go through a realtor or attend an open house when the time comes. The gall of some people is unbelievable. I’m glad my uncle gave it to one of the first families that formally offered after attending the open house.
I don’t even bother since the Pixel has a handy screening feature for unrecognized numbers.
