So my questions in to general parts.

My first question is can I use proper WiFi roaming with openwrt? I want to have my devices automatically jump to the nearest ap but currently they stay connected to the first one they connected to until the signal drops.

My second question is a little harder. Is it possible to make openwrt participate in a mesh network created by home mesh? I don’t need to much functionally but currently I have an ap with the same name and roaming isn’t working properly. It just hangs onto the openwrt connection until the absolute last second.

    Roaming is usually client based.

    All you can do is make sure 802.11-2012/802.11r is enabled or supported.

    You can also disassociate via RSS strength but you may disassociate too soon lose connectivity.

      Roaming is - totally - client based. And it should be for a bunch of good reasons, even brands like ubiquity and cisco don’t do anything particular with roaming.

    Assuming you have hardware with support you can use 802.11s. There’s also some other info - check the docs

    I’ve got no idea what this home mesh is, according to their GitHub: MeshCentral is a free open source web-based remote computer management software.
