I was told by the guy in a phone shop that most phones just need a damp cloth across the screen at worst. I think they sell water-based cleaners in the phone shops too. It depends on the manufacturers recommendation a bit too. One brand is called Eco I think. Usually comes as a small kit for a coupla quid.
Thats not good for the conductive layer of the screen. It can lead to problems with it after a while.

About the coating
It’s okay; I’m only wiping down the case, which has a built-in screen protector. No alcohol is actually touching the screen.
