Sorry to say everyone, shit is about to get violent again. It already happened in Halifax when a couple was assaulted by a group of Men. Threats are on the rise, vandalism on the rise, and violence on the rise. Not to mention the attacks on the political levels helping to drive this forward.

Pulling out and cancelling the events because the bigots are getting spicy is how they succeed in rolling back every inch gained in the last 50 years. Go to pride, be proud, and be “on your way to a baseball game”.

Fredericton Pride announced its decision to cancel the two-week festival through social media posts late Thursday night, citing “harassment board members have received.”

“In order to ensure our own safety, that of our performers, and our volunteers … Fredericton Pride has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 festival.”

I will also add a big FUCK YOU to all those who sent threats to the board and caused this cancellation. I hope they rot in hell for their selfish stupidity.

NB has never been a safe haven for queer people, but the brazenness of homophobes and transphobes has increased dramatically since Premier Higgs’ attack on trans youth and policy 713.

I personally know quite a few drag performers in the province, and every single one of them consistently receives death threats and harassment on their social media.

If you vote conservative, fuck you. The rhetoric of the Conservatives (both provincially in NB and federally) is directly influencing the rise of hate crimes towards people I love. If you still support these political parties, you are either uninformed to a ridiculous degree (in which case, please educate yourself before giving your support to people) or you’re a shitstain on society.
