Looks cool, you should definitely build the community the way you want to!
It’s sometimes easier to build up an existing community that already has a number of subscribers but could use more love and attention. Of course you can also cross post to and from that other community if you’d prefer to grow a new one.
In this case, I’m thinking of [email protected]. If you wanted to, you could reach out and offer to help moderate

Otter@lemmy.cato Programming@programming.dev•Remote c++ development suggestions.English11·1 month agoDepending on what restrictions you have, you could try VSCode? That’s what students were told to do at my university for remote C / C++ development off the school’s servers

I’m not familiar with the others, but for vscode
- click the symbol that looks like
<
in the bottom left - potentially install the remote SSH add-on if it asks for it
- log in
- open the left sidebar and tell it to open the folder you are developing in
- click the symbol that looks like

It’s a pretty old internet nonprofit, and I don’t think they’re involved in this community but it’s the moderator?
I saw a previous post about this community and I still don’t know what’s going on

Otter@lemmy.cato Programming@programming.dev•Git grumpy: Torvalds complains of passive voice in merge commit messagesEnglish72·7 months agoThe message:
"I try to make my merge commit messages be somewhat “cohesive”, and so I often edit the pull request language to match a more standard layout and language. It’s not a big deal, and often it’s literally just about whitespace so that we don’t have fifteen different indentation models and bullet syntaxes. I generally do it as I read through the text anyway, so it’s not like it makes extra work for me.
But what does make extra work is when some maintainers use passive voice, and then I try to actively rewrite the explanation (or, admittedly, sometimes I just decide I don’t care quite enough about trying to make the messages sound the same).
So I would ask maintainers to please use active voice, and preferably just imperative."
Giving an example of a bad commit message, Torvalds provided this example: “In this pull request, the Xyzzy driver error handling was fixed to avoid a NULL pointer dereference.” He believes this should have been written as follows: “This fixes a NULL pointer dereference in …”

Otter@lemmy.cato Programming@programming.dev•.dev It's time to return to the roots, to the C programming language.English12·7 months agowhy do we need this fancy ‘C’ language, when we could just write everything in assembly?
No, only pure machine code. Anything else is rude. If we’re going to get help from computers, then the least we can do is speak their language
There’s also this!
@[email protected]@[email protected] can probably explain more
I don’t have anything to add because that sums up my thoughts as well
I might skip the first episode on future rewatches, but the other two were fun
I’m not sure where you are in the world, but you could look into maker spaces, local universities/colleges, or any local hobby clubs.
Each of them might have programs to let you borrow tools, or bring something in to work on. The least they might know about what is available
Otter@lemmy.caOPto Videos@lemmy.world•Dog Sets Off Fire After Chewing Through BatteryEnglish8·9 months agoA family pet in Oklahoma has had a dog of a day when playtime sparked an emergency response. A pet monitoring camera captured the pup chewing on a power bank before a bright flash and a fire ignited. The two dogs and the cat inside the home managed to get out safely via the perfect escape hatch.
I just shared that article yesterday from iFixit about how to keep batteries from bloating during storage. An additional point might be to keep it away from creatures that might chew on them.
