  • I would describe it as software that is not 100% open source, and/or connects to services that run is not purely open source software connecting through standard protcols. It can’t have a proprietary connection.

Basically, if both the software and the service do not run reprodible builds of the software, it is an anti-feature. For example, Proton, Telegram and NewPipe are open source apps, but the source code for their servers is not published so it’s a proprietary connection or servers run proprietary software, so those apps have anti-features.

If you care about future CPU releases in several years, spend as much money as you can on an X670 board. I’m not convinced that the best B650 board can support in 4 years a 16 core processor with future designs, cooling requirements, and provide enough power.

Seeing that Ryzen 8000 is laptop, so the next one will be 9000, if you want a Ryzen 9 10000 or 11000, get something like the most expensive Gigabyte X670 you can buy for future CPU designs.

Buying Radeon 7000 is fine, you can upgrade that in a couple of years and it’s only a 10 minute job to change GPU and run DDU in safe mode.

  • Instagram can be used with only a login and email, so you can be anonymous without any contact info.

If you use the Instagram app with live cell service then it’s already copied all of your contact info from scanning phone details.

That doesn’t mean you might as well register your number with Whatsapp, in the same way that someone can use Instagram without ever using Facebook or Messenger.

I do agree about try to use Signal in place of Whaysapp, nit along side Whatsapp, if for no other reason than to compartmentalize your data and your info. Think of it this way, seperating security from privacy, Whatsapp is far better than plain texting for security. If you want privacy and unrecoverable conversations, it starts at Signal, but still goes higher from there if a person is open to learning more technical apps like SimpleX.
