I’ve done this a couple times. Some reasons off the top of my head:
The content was specific to Mastodon and the people following me there, so there wasn’t much point posting it somewhere else.
It started off as a normal toot well within my server’s character limit (1500, my server is awesome that way) but then I wanted to add more thoughts later without annoying everyone who already boosted the original.
The individual toots in a thread are sometimes posted quite far apart, but make sense to be viewed together, e.g. standalone progress updates on the same project.
Of course there are plenty people doing it just because the microblogging is the only tool they have so they have to make the content fit. But there’s a few more potential reasons to add to the list.
For anyone who enjoys seeing how the sausage is made, OP also has some devlogs up on YouTube, I’ve been following for a little while. https://youtube.com/@PaahtimoGames
Congrats on the release!
That’s kind of ok actually, at least you’re not pretending it’s real tea.
(also it’s delicious, so you’ve got that going for you)
Member of my extended family had it. His mother, immediately after he was born, was advised to go for whatever the legal process is for abandoning a child to care instead. She did not take this option, and the doctors told her she was making a big mistake. That would’ve been in the early 60s.
He only lived into his forties but he was a wonderful person, creative and warm and loving, with pretty much his only failure being an overwhelming obsession with the music of Robbie Williams. Came to live with us after his mam was gone and essentially became my big brother.
At his funeral, people literally lined the streets all along the route because there were way too many to fit into the actual venue.
This story doesn’t have much to do with anything but I just like remembering him, so there you go.
Given how many people I’ve forced at nag-point to read Children of Time over the years, this is quite a relief. Good guy Tchaikovsky!
Definitely a lot of horror elements in the few I’ve read (Children of Time + sequels, Cage of Souls). I’ve only just scratched the surface, the man is a writing machine, but it does seem to be a trend so far.
He blends genres a lot and even his own work is kind of eclectic and all over the place, but his worldbuilding and the ability to take a totally alien concept and make it utterly believable are just top notch.
Genuinely did once get hired to do some design work for “Facebook but for dogs”.
They paid me money and I got to put photos of my own dogs everywhere as placeholders and look at them all day so whatever.
That’s actually pretty handy. Cheers!
I knew that would be a step too far. The dream is dead 😆
Yes! Although, I have to admit I’ve never rewatched Farscape since it was originally on, I was still in school and me and my bestie were obsessed. Kind of worried to rewatch and find it doesn’t hold up. Firefly on the other hand, totally holds up!
Ok this will put the cat among the pigeons. And I probably shouldn’t be admitting it on the internet, but I just have to know…
For all I love scifi, I cannot stand the Battlestar Galactica remake. Thoughts?
Oh well, no further recommendations from me. But hello Trek-preferences twin, I guess :D
I’m completely with you on this, LD is clearly a hit with a lot of people and that makes me happy to see, but the show is just not for me. The characters are indeed way too hyper all the time which is tiring to watch, and I think it’s a shame because the concept and even a lot of the plots could be funny, but the characters never grow or change or become any less the absolute worst, so it’s kind of a wasted opportunity.
Anyway I’m not replying to dunk on LD. It’s a tv show and I don’t personally like it, whatever. I am replying to ask if you’ve tried The Orville.
Go with me here, because I assumed it was going to be just more of the kiddie style humour like LD. And it sort of is at first, so on my first attempt I bounced off the first episode and didn’t go back for a year. But we seem to have basically the same taste when it comes to Trek and I can honestly say The Orville turned into some of the best Trek I’ve seen. It’s got its weak points and annoying characters like anything else, but they’re a bit more like real people who change over time based on their experiences and aren’t just stuck in that typical animated show loop of being exactly the same again at the start of each new episode.
You might like it, you might not. Just a suggestion! :)
Went here on an unexpected holiday diversion over summer. It’s genuinely the most beautiful place I have ever seen in real life. Weak mojitos, though.
(also technically not a fjord)
Justice for Leeds!
(It’s a city not a town)
Living in an area that has “James Cook is from round here” as basically its only defining characteristic just got a lot cooler.
Do NOT look up any further information first. Just play. Enjoy!
Good effort!
Couple things: The first line of your toot becomes the Lemmy post title so keep it short and don’t add any tags (they format weirdly). Also if you tag multiple communities it’ll only post to the first.
Hi from Lemmy 👋
I’m sure anyone reading this in the UK is already aware of MSE but just in case: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest/#easyaccess
A quick glance suggests most of those really high ones are time-limited bonus offers, but other places are doing quite high interest in general e.g. Marcus is paying 4.75%.
