The first 2-3 seasons are great. And that’s because it’s excellent characters in an unusual situation with just a splash of mystery/paranormal. The end of the show sucks, because they wrote it like they knew where it was leading, but they didn’t. The big reveals are very unsatisfying. Would have been better if they just ended it with no answers and let it develop organically instead of shoe-horning a “this is what it was all leading to” ending into it.

I remember in the mid-aughts my brother hacked his iPod — the wheel kind, this was pre-iPhone — to hold the entirety of the text of English Wikipedia at the time.
“I am gonna get you so many lizards!” Whenever my wife has already done a chore/task I was intending to do.
There’s also the fact that there isn’t an algorithm trying to keep you doomscrolling by promoting commercial content.

And that sounds like a line from Lower Decks (just sub “Starfleet” for “Trek”), which is why I love that show so.
Makes me think of that series Heimat. In the beginning their minds are being blown by radio; by the end they’re flying on commercial jets.
Now that I think about it, what makes the fan service work on LD is that they don’t try to cloak it in some sort of wink and nod bullshit. Like Sulu in ST 2009 with the sword. Again, some of that is the prerogative of a comedy.
I’m right there with you, except that I can’t even bring myself to watch DIS or PIC. As soon as it became clear how much those shows were being produced like the movies I lost interest. It’s not what I want from Trek. And I subsequently waited a good while to check out LD, but that was a mistake. I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect combination of classic Trek optimism, loveable characters, and comedy. And they honestly even get fan-service right, which I didn’t think was possible (though it does make sense that it would be in a semi-parody).
I wish it took me a moment.
