  • Hey man, (or lady, or whatever,) I won’t lie to you or try give you life tips because I’m sure you’re up to your eyes with that. But I will say: life is a bitch. It really just is a bitch. That being said, I’d argue there are still good people in the world, but they’re hard to find because being nice is very often not rewarded in modern consumer societies; hell, sometimes it’s even tacitly punished.

I know this probably doesn’t really help, but for what it’s worth, I’ve been in a similar situation…just minus the parental health problems (knock on wood). So while I can’t fully get it, I do to some extent. And if I can get through it, so can you because frankly, I am an idiot.

Sending you love; I hope things can turn around for you soon.

  • The number of times W11 menu has tried to convince me to install TikTok immediately destroys the OS’ legitimacy in my eyes.

And then there’s the lack of customization; the shovelware and bloat; the random crashes and hangs with only a blue screen with an emoticon frowny face; the constant advertising; and the tracking of everything you do with the OS to feed advertising; the forced integration of cloud services like OneDrive…

Fuck windows. I’m not a programmer but I’ve been running Manjaro (I know, I know) as a daily driver on three different devices for 7 years now. The only true problem I’ve ever had was theming grub2 and fucking up the config, which was entirely my own fault.

  • FreshRss also allows you (with some reading/testing) to scrape web pages that don’t have aftual RSS feeds. What I like is that it lets me read on web at work where I can’t use my phone, and use my phone elsewhere, and keep it all synced.

I’m also a data/hoarder type so I like knowing that as long as I run it, I don’t lose my feeds!

  • Okay, I’m glad I’m not too far off the mark then (I’m not an AI expert/it’s not my field of study).

I think this also points to/is a great example of another worrying trend: the consolidation of computing power in the hands of a few large companies. Without even factoring in the development of true AI/whether that can or will happen anytime soon, the LLMs really show off the massive scale of both computational power consolidation AMD data harvesting by only a very few entities. I’m guessing I’m not alone here in finding that increasingly concerning, particularly since a lot of development is driving towards surveillance applications.
