Gmail’s UI is awful unless you are coming from the Outlook webmail client … then it’s freaking amazing.

My wife was horrified to learn that we put our parents in a home when they get old. She’s from Colombia and such a thing would be unthinkable.
Having said that I would never want my children to look after me. It’s not fair on them… they have their own lives to lead.
A previous owner of my apartment had for some reason installed a high security door. It’s 5 inches thick with steel plates inside and has 3 separate sets of 3 locking rods like a bank vault. Not sure what line of work they were in but, really, good luck to the person who thinks they can break in here easily. Downside is there is no way to put a digital lock on the sucker.
Also to add to this, science is self-correcting and, unlike religion, allows and even requires questioning in order to function. Newtons’ laws of motion revolutionized classical mechanics and held firm for more than 200 years. But there were some things the laws could not explain. Eventually Einstein formulated corrections to Newtowns laws that took relativity into account. So Newtons’ laws didn’t disappear… they continue to be useful at non-relativistic velocities. But when we need to deal with hyper-fast objects we need to take relativity into account.
Quantum entanglement, black holes, dark energy … all way more interesting than ghosts. We know these things exist and hope that science may one day be able to unravel them.
I’m primarily a runner but I’ve been combining swimming for the last 10 years or so and it’s been great. Swimming is fantastic cross training for runners. It lets you maintain cardio fitness while you give your “running” muscles a break. It teaches good breathing techniques. It works other muscle groups like upper body and core muscles which are important for stability. And most of all, for me, my partner loves to swim so it’s something we can do together.
“In the future, write the scientists in a paper published in the journal Science Robotics, drone swarms like this could be used for disaster relief and ecological surveys.”.
Yeah sure, tell me another one

This is not unique to Teslas. Any car with electric door and window locks can trap you inside if the power fails. Normally this is just inconvenient but if that vehicle is on fire or submerged it can be life threatening.
LPT always make sure you know where the manual door release is located. Also if your car drives into water immediately roll down the windowa before the power fails.
He didn’t “pass”. He died. What is with the current refusal of so many to use a perfectly serviceable word?
Me too. I found unilem who’s policy is explicitly not to defederate from any instance. I prefer to be treated like an adult and allowed to decide for myself who I block.
These are the movies I can always watch again.
If I’m on a plane scrolling to find a movie to watch and I see any of those I stop right there.
There’s another difference between humans and computers you forgot to mention. Once a computer 'learns" something, (like avoiding driving into wet concrete), it will never make that mistake again. Prople on the other hand continue making the same error over and over.
You are using an argument that is not new … pilots have used it for decades (and some still do) to complain about automation on the flight deck. Yet every day tens of thousands of airliners fly to their destination (and sometimes land there as well) with no pilot intervention. Pilots could easily be eliminated from airplanes … the reason they are still flying has more to do with PR and a public not willing to fly without a human up front. But automation has made air travel safer by an order of magnitude. It will do the same for cars.
Just be very careful if you do this. If you leave your local SIM card active and someone calls your local number your phone will ring and if you answer it you can pay huge roaming charges.
The exception to your rule may be the boomers who grew up learning how to program without OOP or a modern IDE, who could manually correct an error in a punch card with sellotape and who could write a complete accounting system to run on a machine with 32K RAM and no hard disk. Now get off my lawn.
Another reason a fan works is because it increases evaporation of sweat. Evaporation involves a phase change which requires energy. That energy is extracted from the body surface. Without air flow the envelope of air next to the skin gets saturated meaning it can’t hold any more water vapor, so evaporation stops.
Also once an AI car is taught it will never do this again . Human drivers will keep on doing this.
This person gave a cogent and reasoned reply to the question and allowed us to see the reasoning of people on the other side, an opportunity rarely afforded to us here. And your response is an ad-hominim attack? Really?
Sad to see that our voting here is just as messed up as it was on Reddit. People will downvote a sensible cogent reply because they don’t like the politics of the poster. Then they’ll go and upvote a braindead 2 word comment like “fuck Trump”. Lemmings indeed.
SQL. The simplest syntax of all languages but can be amazingly powerful if you know what you you're doing. (And frighteningly dangerous if you don't).
