but they arent. there are plenty of other storefronts out there, albeit many being publisher owned. steam continues to succeed not because it has cornered the market like some monopolies, but because it is pro consumer and actually embraced by its target audience
depends who he passes ownership to. it could be a bunch of inheriters who have no interest in owning/running it and it will be forced to sell off to split shares out. or maybe he gifts it to a single person he sees as a successor. who knows, i dont know shit about his family so have no idea

seen it happen before but what they do is ‘abolish’ the role, and introduce a new role with a new name, oddly similar job description (they change it enough to count as a new role) and rehire people on contract where the previous roles were permanent

I work with financial analysts and accountants at work. we swing from “holy shit the sky is falling” to “wow we have more budget in this than we realised” in a few months, meanwhile the guys in the field do the exact same job and the relatively fixed revenue stream keeps coming in

ebay is where you go for aliexpress junk that you might find from a local seller instead if you need it sooner. that’s about it. once in a Bluemoon a sale coincides with prices not being jacked and you can get a slight bargain (in the last year I managed to get a Bass at a good price and some bike tyres) but other than that just cheap junk is all it’s good for
