Google has more resources than Mozilla, and Chrome has long been the most popular browser so it’s not surprising others would want a piece of that pie.

That may be, but I know my browsing history, even as I get older and older, and I am using StackOverflow hardly at all compared to ChatGPT which I am using almost a scary amount.
I know I am not the only developer, this is how things are going.
ChatGPT is a big, big part of it.
Also, you can have it talk like a catgirl maid, so I find that’s particularly helpful as well.
I bet Google searching in general has gone down too. It’s often times quicker to just ask ChatGPT for an answer, and usually you can tell when an answer is correct or not. It’s like the old days of manually searching on Google for StackOverflow questions and then finding answers, and then trying to determine which one will work.
They used to be “Don’t be evil” now they’re the most evil company, absolutely crazy.
That’s a ChatGPT generated answer 😭
Is it bad that I use ChatGPT enough to to be able to recognize that’s a ChatGPT generated answer?
Honestly those reasons aren’t the main reason why they went with the fediverse. For communism, it’s because decentralization means that companies can’t own the technology - by design. The meme “you have no power here” applies. For trans people, I believe it’s because they can have their own community that they truly own, and decide who they can link with through federation/defederation and being able to decide who can participate rather than having to put up with a company making those decisions.
If you’re gonna have an account dedicated to ChatGPT-generated answers, at least have it do something cool like a catgirl maid typing style.
We need a boobs social media platform. Now that’s a million dollar idea.
What prevents Google from lying about how their algorithms work, though? How could it actually be verified? There’s no way it could just be as simple as they give their word and suddenly that’s good enough for a court ruling?
So wait, is Google only suggesting things that are popular, or are they displaying things people didn’t search out themselves? How do they prove that in court, do they need to show their source code or something?
this guy is doing exactly what he wants to do and their goal is to make money not to lose them.
How does this make him money exactly? lol
He is literally just killing off his website.
If he keeps doing this people are just gonna switch to Mastodon lol
Here are the results at my time of reading this, if anyone is curious: https://i.imgur.com/PcMywpx.png
I do almost all of my gaming on PC (and Steam Deck too). I am the 256th person to vote PC. That’s 2 to the power of 8. lol
Yeah, I’ve heard of people using cron jobs to automatically clean activity older than 3 days.
I’m not sure what can be done about image staking up a lot of space, I imagine that’ll take up a ton of space after a while. Not sure how that could be cleaned up safely.
I wanna look into self-hosting my own Lemmy instance some time. Once I have more time to figure it out with my home network local server w/ public cloud VPS OpenVPN server setup (likely with Docker containers too) I’ll take a look into it. You’re right, it’ll likely be fun and right up my alley too.
The issue with that though is that they end up removing what made them popular to begin with, so then they lose their popularity and traffic and then they are worth nothing again lol
It’s kind of crazy how these popular services are always insistent on killing themselves off with these horrible changes.
I kind of agree but I am torn on it. If they can give us funny moments and more cute Fry & Leela moments then I am all for it.
Yeah some of these sound straight up aggressive lol
That’s pretty much me. I’ve introduced a few of my friends to Linux. I recommend Ubuntu because it generally has the most documentation, support, largest userbase, etc but they are of course free to pick whatever distro they want. I use Ubuntu LTS myself, it works well enough. In terms of software, I like static linked builds and AppImages since they work on pretty much any distro.
Bonus points if she’s both lol
