  • Always found it fun to see that one of the few prominent black characters of the franchise was also the one to permanently die.

Meanwhile the worst most evil and disgusting old white guy keeps getting defeated and killed but never dies. Palpatine is like the Star Wars Mitch McConnell.

  • What doctor has time to do that? I’m in Canada and I can never trust my doctor to have any conversation with anyone, at any time longer than five minutes at a time for anything.

The best tactic I’ve found if you want to get anything done for yourself or someone close to you is for you to do the legwork and make calls, contacts and literally hound people to do their job. If no one is there to push things along, no one is going to magically appear to help you … that is a fantasy that seldom and rarely happens, even in our publicly funded system.

You or someone who is capable should advocate for you every step of the way, otherwise you will just get lost and forgotten in the system … whether you are in the US or Canada.

  • I love how the different scifi franchises easily drift into very specific camps

    • space explorers and scientists
    • space religious fanatics, wizards and fascists
    • space warriors and soldiers
    • space pirates
    • space goofballs

The best one to me is the space goofballs. We like to think that there is intelligent life out there. But there is also the possibility that we could run into space travellers that have no clue what they are doing and just run into us and don’t know what to do and either just hand over technology to us or blow us up by accident. It could be like an intergalactic truck driver making a shipment that happened to blow an engine and decided to park here for a while, give us replicators or exotic material or something dangerous, fix their engine, kill a bunch of soldiers that gave them a hard time, blow up a few things and then went on their way, never caring what they did or what they left. Leaving us all to believe that there is intelligent life out there that wants something to do with us because we think we are important.

  • Both my parents attended residential school in northern Ontario and I have relatives that attended schools here in the north including the infamous St Anne’s in Fort Albany.

Talk to any of them and they will share with you so many stories of killed, murdered, disappeared and lost children from their time in these schools. There are also many legendary and almost mythical stories that are either true or exaggerated but all are shared by large groups of people of stories like Charlie Wenjack, children who tried to run away home. Some people know stories of children that made it to their home but there are many stories of children who did run away but never made it home … and in many instances, the families of those same children that disappeared have also died out and there is no one left to confirm or deny the story.

Whatever the total number of dead are … the truth is always the same … Canada actively tried to remove Indigenous people because they saw them as less than human and not worthy of saving, helping, assisting or supporting. In fact, Canada saw us as a hindrance to development for their corporate owners who wanted the land for development, the rock underneath for wealth, the trees in the forest to harvest and the rivers that they could dam and make money from. We stood in their way and we still stand in their way … which is why they have always wanted to find ever more creative ways of removing us from the equation.

  • I could sense they must have had a hell of time putting it together too … between the complex editing and CGI that would have been a mountain of work to pull off in 1996 … figuring out how to squeeze the scenes together to make a storyline … then mix in the fact that Klingons make an appearance with Worf having to blandly brush it all away by saying ‘we don’t talk about it’ … and trying to shoehorn in Sisko sharing a scene with Kirk … it all works but just barely.

Now I understand why so many people complain about it. If you can appreciate the constraints they had in making this, I think it’s an amazing episode.

Loved the editing they did with the bar fight scene … they were careful to mix a curly haired Klingon from the original footage to be fighting hand to hand with modern O’Brien.
