look at the numbers. NDP +Libs outnumber them in Parliament so anything they try to pass… including budget is in NDP+Libs hands… if budget does not pass… it’s auto-trigger for election if memory serves me right.

minority government with NDP+Lib holding majority is OK. Cons can grab majority but will be gridlocked on every move, meaning we’ll retain status quo for a bit, until Libs and NDP will decide to call election
looking at the graph it does leave impression that Lib losses went straight to NDP gains
understated detail: NDP snuck up on Libs? that’s a pleasant surprise. Maybe people did notice that all of recent progressive changes were forced by NDP onto Libs… interesting
while it’s great Canada still remembers about Ukraine existence, but $5m is less than budget of small Canadian municipality. Canada can and should do more. We have other items on agenda that require resources and attention, but contribution of that size start to look less like token contribution and more like insults.
while we do need competition and variety on the market, electronics with Chinese origin raise serious concerns though. given China’s present political trajectory it’s not too far fetched to assume that vehicles will have remote backdoors that could be used for remote control of a vehicle. So unless those are “dumb” vehicles (which is highly unlikely) this is unlikely to be a good thing in a long run
We can go back to “reforms” Harper government done like muzzling scientists and defunding projects serving public interest. Of course those same people would want to defund the only outlet not in their pockets. I haven’t seen a single point on Conservative agenda that is not going to harm average person short or long term. yet people still vote them in and Liberals behaving like entitled pricks do not make situation any better. Even NDP has shifted to the right. There’s no federal party with representation in Parliament that has workers as a central point of their agenda. Everything is now about business which is very much not the same
This article’s question reminded me of and old and dark joke: when “power user” comes to the grizzled sysadmin with a printout of his very first program and asks “sir, can you see where the error is” to which grizzled sysadmin replied “in DNA” without ever looking away from his screen. Same here… problem is in DNA of conservatism. They are attached to material stuff thus with each iteration removing themselves further from humanity. It’s i escapable for them to end up here.
novel idea: do not allow to list party affiliations, only election platform. Those would be some very interesting results
totally agree on most points (see my earlier reply in this thread). However dissuading “investment” into property (aka taxation on non-primary dwellings) and keeping returns below inflation will divert investors from the real estate market over time. They will HODL however if not presented with exit strategy. If they are allowed time to divest and exit - they will IMO
not that simple. Trudeu is a jerk etc. But in this case the only reasonable measure that will minimize damage is to prevent further price growth. Maybe allowing growth at “under inflation” rates which could soften the blow to poor saps that are neck-deep in mortgages.
I hear ya, but there’s no side-stepping the fact that families who took out mortgages at the peak prices and peak rates and won’t be able to sell to cover their cost and sinking deeper in debt. In other words affordability after years of neglect becomes challenging. If all the mortgages are erased or re-adjusted to new market state then maybe… however what to do with families that paid 80% mortgage and their house price dips 50%. They paid real money to the real bank who gets to keep the money while family’s deficit from all those extra payments amounts to nothing, esp. if they were targeting it as retirement fund. Thus far I saw no proposals that don’t destroy portion of non-rich population. 🙁 Whoever comes up with solution will deserve Nobel prize.
doom-and-gloom from a website centered on real estate (investment) and as Canada closes loopholes on foreign investment in real estate… timing is suspicious. Lack of similar coverage elsewhere doubly so.
were we expecting any different from Liberals (or, for that measure Conservatives)? They always will chase higher income voters as those with higher income can donate more… so addressing low income issues (other than swiping them under the rug) is not in their best interest. In other words: our electoral system has a lot to do with the outcome and motivation for parties. They need middle class and up donations and low income class votes. So they use middle-class donations to create illusions of caring for low income folk. We’re all being duped here folks.
thank you for such a detailed response. I would love to contribute however at the moment my capacities are rather limited but otherwise I'd be willing to add sqlite adapter. From your description it sounds like currently architecture is narrowly locked on PostgreSQL features. In my daily job I love PostgreSQL for big apps and stacks but I'm also aware how "hungry" PG can be, which is why I'm wondering whether it's "too big of a hammer" for this particular problem. Also, setting up single service is easier to novices vs maintaining several. Docker compose is nice but it has it's limitations.
@mgdigital, first thing I'be noticed: reliance on "heavier" database stack (pg + redis), at least from the first glance at docker-compose. My suggestion would be to have an option for minimalist setup with sqlite and without redis if possible. That would work better for those of us flying with minimal hardware (rpi, old PC and such).
seeing that issue spans across several games I didn’t want to post to appdb. I’ve re-jigged mynsetup to use lutris and forced wine version to be below 8.x and all is good. However my intent was not to find how to run those games, but what’s wrong? with 8.x Wine.
it’s not POL. It’s System Wine. Lutris has the same problem with system Wine (and some of it’s own Wine versions). All I’m trying to do is figure out the source and report upstream
My games are using separate prefixes. My NWN install did not use lutris or POL as for some reason both POL and lutris refused to properly install it.
I was more looking into whether others observed similar issues with Wine 8.12 specifically so that it can be raised in Wine’s bugzilla
My understanding is that party with the most votes gets to form government, is it not so?
