Agreed, I loved Below Zero. It was very much a small step forward from Subnautica, and I think people were expecting a bigger step forward. But it was always a glorified DLC for the original. Knowing that, it’s extremely enjoyable. I’ve played it through twice and I do love it in it’s own right.
This teaser has me hopefully that Subnautica 2 will be a true sequel. More polished, a bigger improvement on the original. Maybe I’m naive, but I’m gonna choose to be hopeful.

It’s one of my favorite games ever, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best game ever made. I would say it’s one of the most unique gaming experiences I’ve ever had though, and that’s valuable to me. Learning about this cute little star system one mystery at a time is an incredible experience IMO. But if you’re bored by the gameplay loop, don’t expect it to change much. It stays pretty constant. The point is learning one secret at a time and getting a full picture of what’s happening.
Flying is definitely clunky, but to me it feels intentional (or at least fitting). As others have said, always use auto-pilot to go between planets and cancel to move your trajectory around anything that comes in between and then re-engage auto pilot. Usually that’s either the sun or a moon (happens a lot if you book it straight to Brittle Hollow). When you’re near other things, match velocity is very useful either to stop next to something or get nice and aligned with the planet you’re about to land on.
When flying manually, less is more. There’s no friction to slow you down but there is gravity to speed you up.
Sheesh, now I feel actually attacked a little. I was being mostly hyperbolic, but you can do really useful things with complex figures in presentations. For example: revealing elements sequentially to build up to the final figure or altering opacity of different elements to bring the audience’s attention to specific parts of the figure.
This sequencing can sometimes very subtly alter the size of the figure as you change elements, so the default positioning will slightly change from one slide to the next. Most people won’t care or notice when a figure slightly drifts by a pixel or two during these sequences, but it bothers me tremendously so I add adjustments to keep every variation of the figure aligned on the slides.
I feel personally attacked. Brb, making presentation slides in beamer and compiling 1000 times to get the figure to the exact right pixel.
I definitely won’t make any changes to the figure later that will make me have to adjust the position again. Why yes, this is better than PowerPoint, why do you ask?
I’ve lost interest in movies over time but maybe for a different reason. I far prefer TV shows these days, especially sci-fi and fantasy, because for me the point is the escapism. With movies there’s just not enough time for the level of immersion I’m after, with rare exception (Lord of the Rings being the main one, but that was more of a miniseries in movie trilogy form). I want to escape into the world and get to know it, what the rules are there, what it’s like to be there.

Stardew Valley, the 1.6 update adds lots of small new content in all the right places to really take the game to the experience I imagine ConcernedApe always wanted it to be. This is something like my 10th playthrough and it’s easily my favorite one since the 1st.

Fuck, I’ve never even heard of those. This whole system is garbage, how am I supposed to know how to protect myself from fraud when these companies just somehow automatically have authority to let thieves steal my identity? At the very least we should have a centralized government agency that you can issue a blanket freeze with. Better would be an actual proper ID system.
Yep, I’m in the unlucky half. It’s good practice anyway, but now I keep my credit frozen at all three credit bureaus unless I’m submitting an application. Doesn’t stop all fraud, but stops most of the kind that can fuck up my credit.
It’s bullshit that this is the case, but if you itemize your taxes you can deduct state taxes, including sales tax. If you’re in a place like WA that puts absolutely everything on sales tax make sure to look it up by your specific zip code to account for all levels of sales tax. The Sales Tax Deduction Calculator is a pretty easy way to do it.
Note that you’re probably still better off using the standard deduction unless you have some other significant source of deductions that you can itemize (mortgage/property taxes, maybe auto loan if you got a crazy expensive car, significant medical expenses).
My wife kept her name (both of our names are important to us, and neither of us care about tradition). So far no real issues, just people who know one of us assuming the other shares a last name. Unless it’s someone we’re going to interact with a lot or we’re filling out paperwork, we don’t bother correcting them.
We are trying to have a kid, and if we succeed we’ll give them her last name. So… I’m super looking forward to being a man picking up a kid with a different last name and all the assumptions I’m probably going to have to face. I’m just hoping by the time that happens this will be a normal enough occurrence that it won’t be a big deal.
