  • You can say fuck on the internet.

Yes, but you’re not being judged just because you used it but how

You absolutely should call Tankie scum at every opportunity.

No, you shouldn’t, “Tankie” by itself targets their ideology and their actions (Pushing misinfo, propaganda etc) by adding “scum” into it or other slurs you shift that target from ideologies and behavior to the actual person. Not cool. For the most part, they’re just people being used as tools by the real evil people pulling the strings.

Tankies don’t use logic, trying to reason with those intolerants is just turtles all the way down.

That’s fine, remember, your arguments are public so aren’t just about convincing a tankie, but any potential observers as well

Anybody who wants to foster healthy community on Lemmy should promote open hostility towards Tankies

No. Absolutely not. They can have their community, we should be promoting defederation, boycotting and general awareness.

You know I’m pretty anti-tankie around here, and even I’m saying, chill out open hostility does nothing but anger everyone.

The W3C (The body that dictates web standards) specification, that describes what browser engines should handle, like CSS features, HTML5 etc and how is equivalent to thousands of pages long and there are huge standards to implement.

HTML5 is a big thing to implement, so is CSS and the JavaScript engine and probably even more technologies I’m forgetting

And that’s just implementation, it takes even more work to get them running well enough for the average end-user

Ladybird has been working on their from scratch engine for ~5 years iirc and they’re not planning to even have the first alpha out until next year lol

  • It’s a monumental effort really, building a browser engine from scratch and taking it to daily driver usable is probably among the most difficult programming challenges. It’s way easier to build a new Linux kernel from scratch than a browser engine lmao

Even Microshit tried and gave up because it was so hard
