Unadjusted pay figures is an interesting one. On the one hand adjusted pay scales makes it really clear whether people are being paid the same for the same work, on the other hand unadjusted could potentially highlight areas for improvement in terms of adjustments for new mothers etc. That’s tricky though as if the father works for a different company and can’t take time off to look after a new born then the mother will likely have to. Why not release both along with the weightings?

I hate this trend of saying “SLAMMED”, or “HOUNDED”, or “ATTACKED” etc in news articles where the stories are just “a couple of people with a dozen followers between them posted slightly negative tweets about topic xyz”.

Unlucky :( I’ve had it on my wishlist but it was too much for me. Glad I’m going to get to play it. I never finished 3 so a full series playthrough might be in order. If you haven’t logged many hours on it you might be able to swing a refund? Though a week is a long time.

Yeah it looks like the Union flag is next to Gabon on the android emoji flag picker. I think the country code is GB so it's next to GA even though the name is United Kingdom. That might be what's throwing people.

The two US flag emojis are actually different Unicode emojis.

The first is 🇺🇲 'U+1F1FA U+1F1F2' and is for 'U.S. Outlying Islands'.

The second is 🇺🇸 'U+1F1FA U+1F1F8' and is for 'United States'.

Yeah it going down, or not updating PRs with new changes on branches are infrequent but annoying problems. I actually preferred the review UI on bitbucket vs the GitHub one, but GitHub have finally made a nicer looking UI so I might give it a go again.

I think it’s a reasonable take. Skyrim was the last good game they put out, but I even preferred Oblivion to Skyrim - it captured my imagination more and there was more depth to the role playing - so I think it’s a fair view to be cautious.

I’m hoping it’s great, but with the size and scale of the procedurally generated content I’m kind of expecting it to be mostly soulless cookie cutter shooty shooty content with four times the detail but little actual role playing. It’s Bethesda so we know it’s going to be buggy, that’s nothing new.

75% of the current Tory MPs are about to lose their seats in the next election so they don’t give a fuck. The strategy they seem to be adopting to save their jobs is to swing further to the authoritarian right to try and convince boomers to vote for them.

They won’t win by taking the sensible approach to policies like this, so that only leaves incentives to do as much harm as they can in the next year or so in hopes of getting the fascist votes out.

I think extrapolating from poor US environmental regulations to say that no where in the world is it sensible to produce dairy or beef is a bit of a false equivalence. We also don’t have lead pollution in our water, but saying no one should drink tap water because it has lead in it in a certain part of the US is also silly.

I’m all for alternative protein sources and sustainable agriculture, but eliminating meat consumption likely isn’t the best approach. The US, Brazil, and a bunch of other countries using stupid practices like slash and burn agriculture really need to develop and enforce more sustainable practices via regulations and enforcement.

They’ve made some incredible solid state battery leaps recently. For Japan hydrogen actually makes way more sense than a pure EV play too due to the way their grid(s) is set up and their power generation capacity. It’s their home market too so they are going to prioritise that.

They also are working on alternative fuels in a big way. Japan have made some incredible leaps with hydrogen/ammonia based production and fuels, and solid state batteries are looking to be pretty game changing. The EU also included a huge budget to invest in green fuels research (likely because of automotive companies lobbying for it) so plenty is being done. Even if EVs aren’t the best currently, increasing the size of the market for them will continue to create investments in serving those markets more efficiently, so we absolutely should keep investing in both.

Firefox performs as well as chrome 99.8% of the time. The problem is chromium keep implementing things that haven’t gone through the spec process fully yet. This causes the following situation:

The other browsers don’t implement half baked privacy violating features which Google decides will be a new web API despite objections. Developers build features on their sites using that half baked crap. Users try to use the new features on Firefox and kick off about “Firefox specific bugs” because they haven’t implemented non standard APIs.

Safari is its own kettle of fish though and causes a lot of drama. Recently they’ve caught up a lot in terms of support for most standard features developers want. However there’s a big issue with supporting iOS Safari - it’s version is tied to the iOS version of the phone. So users with older phones will be stuck forever on older versions of Safari with breaking bugs for things like flexbox. If you’re in a market with lots of older phones then you have to spend a lot of time ensuring you support that older browser version. iOS Safari is the new internet explorer.
