I gotta say, because of the nature of systemic racism turns of phrase that are ambiguous or are explicitly neutral can be prejudiced or discriminatory is different ways.

We can’t rely on a statistical model to tell us what is infringing on right. We have to be critical.

Twenty years ago when I was 13, I started doing web stuff. This was back when everything was super simple, so everything to get a webserver up was super manual. I supervise exactly one person, and it’s a ton of cognitive effort to analyse his level of competence, determine what skills/paradigm/knowledge he should gain and then create tasks for him to expose him to, help him internalize and then reinforce that same thing.

Why would you stay in an industry that’s in a period of layoffs? Do you have no transferable skills? Did you make a series of financial decisions that mean you require a specific salary level?

Do you not invest time in continuing education? Did you spend a decade working for people that didn’t invest in you? Gave you no opportunities to grow? Why would you tolerate that?

Encouraging people to take abuse doesn’t fix anything.

Encourage people to do things to insulate themselves from the risk of “reasons completely out of their control”.
