  • Honestly I think we need more voting options. Some that I would think would expand on up/down votes:

    I like this
I don’t like this but the content is good (think news articles delivering good journalism on bad news)
I don’t like this and don’t want to see more (irrelevant content to you)
    I disagree with this post
Content is irrelevant to the community
    Content is spam/harmful/etc

That’s obviously not what they would be called, but those are the feelings the votes should convey. And those can be expressed in a simple upvote downvote front to end users as well.

I like this and I don’t like this but the content is good both deliver upvotes

I don’t like this and don’t want to see more doesn’t do either, but tells the algorithm that you don’t want to see that stuff (I don’t even know if any fediverse stuff ranks with an algorithm.

I disagree and content is not relevant both downvote, and content is harmful both downvotes and reports in one action

  • We’re talking seconds of difference, a minute at most. Who cares? Put your phone down during the game and watch the actual fucking game and it won’t matter. Don’t worry about who’s tweeting the last play. Just watch the damn game.

Hell, I record the games I want to watch and start them an hour late so I can fast forward through commercials and still end the game close to the normal time. So most of the game I don’t watch anyways.

That all being said, fuck YouTube and the Sunday ticket bullshit. Too damn expensive.

  • The overwhelming majority of people who work on a computer are stuck with windows.

Another mass majority of people will buy a computer and use whatever is on it. They aren’t tech savvy enough to switch OS’s and they know how to use it because they use it for work.

You want more people on Linux? Get more companies to switch to Linux and get more box stores like Walmart and Best Buy to stock Linux OS’s on PC’s at sale.

Linux growth right now will be slow. It will still happen, but it’s not going to be fast. Steam released the steam deck which runs Linux and the OS saw a MAJOR spike in users. That’s because a device is being sold with Linux stock on it. Now do the same with laptops. Some will say desktops, but desktops aren’t as popular as laptops. It won’t hurt to package with desktops but laptops are key to that.

  • Not autistic (I only found the post via m/all) but I am a dad of a 1 year old.

Cue’s are tough to read. Every time I think I’m getting them, they seem to change. My daughter starts throwing fits at random and I’m just lost running around trying to figure out Whats wrong and if it’s something she needs or if it’s just her not getting what she wants.

I also find I get nasty looks from other parents when I go to the park if my wife isn’t with me. I got the cops called on my for kidnapping my own daughter on more than 1 occasion. Dad’s can’t be dad’s in public when it’s just them and their children. The status quo means you shouldn’t know how to parent and should be at home falling apart the second a diaper needs changed because you just don’t know what to do. Anything else and something is wrong and the police need involved.

I have family with autism. I have friends with autism. I am sure that makes is more difficult. I have no doubts there. But I think being a single dad is adding more to the troubles than you think it is.

  • I meant more so that the first lightbulb didn’t. It had to go through changes and be refined to actually be usable. Maybe a lightbulb wasn’t the best example, but the concept is that the initial discovery is not usually impactful to most people but the inventions those discoveries lead to are whats important to the everyday person. The superconductor has multiple issues, and I doubt this material will find its way in anything in our lives. But if opens a new avenue of research which will lead to other materials which will find their ways into our lives.

  • This. But not a BPO. Work for the call center for a specific company. Don’t do a company that where others outsource too. I work for an ISP and we simply aren’t bringing anyone back to the office because we can actually employ more people WFH than in office. We can hire people 2-3 hours from the nearest office cause they simply don’t need to drive in. My wife worked at a BPO as a trainer and even when WFH was popular during COVID they mandated people work in the center and wouldn’t give paid time off for getting COVID which lead to more exposure. It was a disaster.

Remember, BPO’s try to do the job for the lowest possible cost which means cutting a lot of corners and not worrying about quality. A business that keeps all of its resources in house is more likely to care about quality and the care of its employees. Case in point, when we discuss changes for our employees we weigh some agents leaving with the cost of training new ones and the cost of implementing said changes. BPO’s simply make said changes knowing they are going to train another class every month for the foreseeable future.
