Except since 5.1 I get soft locks on loading screens running via Proton Experimental. I wish their native support wasn’t so awful and dated.

I’m not convinced Paradox knows what they are doing as publisher. Millenia was similarly pushed out the door before it was ready (though in a better state than Cities: Skylines 2). And both games pushed out the door in the last week of the quarter in a transparent effort to boost their earnings. The shortsightedness of the publisher is now impacting their reputation in ways that will be hard to recover. I no longer consider buying Paradox published titles until they are at least a year old or have at least a few months of reviews showing they are solid (like AoW4).

I don’t think you are grasping the difference in scale here. Even if you grant the Federation absolute technological supremacy (which is debatable, but ultimately doesn’t matter). The Galactic Empire at its peak has effectively unlimited resources and the logistical capability to build at unimaginable scale. They could park a fleet the size of the entirety of Starfleet over every Federation world at the same time. Even without superweapons they could devastate all those worlds, lose every single ship in the process and still be able to project power.

Wars are won with industrial capacity and the ability to leverage that capacity. The Empire is perfectly configured to conquer. Their weakness is asymmetrical war from within their infrastructure. The Federation could fight this way, surrender while hiding or scuttling their capital ships, join the Rebellion while bringing significant engineering and technology to bear from within the Empire. That would work.

But a straight-up conflict? No. It’s not a fair fight when one side can absorb losses of any amount and the other side can’t.

It would not be close. Just from a logistics and industrial capacity standpoint. The Federation has around 150 member worlds while the Empire holds more than 1 million inhabited systems. No technical advantage could make up for that discrepancy. The Empire could lose 100:1 and still easily crush the Federation.

I gave worked for Fortune 500 companies for 20 years, the C-suite are overly focused on what their peers are doing, everyone just follows trends. When RTO became the thing all the popular kids were doing, everyone else piled on the wagon.

For me it was just the emotional tone. I only watched the first 5 episodes, but one of the things that makes Star Trek enjoyable for me is its optimism about the future. Discovery was really bleak (at least to start) and I couldn’t keep watching it. I’ve heard it gets better, so maybe I should give it another shot.

I think Pong, but I can’t remember if I played it before getting the Atari XT. The first game I played on that was Galaxian.

Shadow of the Forbidden Gods - a strategy game where you play as the ancient cthonic entity waking up because the stars are right. Set in a fantasy world where the forces of good slowly become aware of the coming apocalypse and attempt to forestall your return. You have to get past the janky UI and some dreadful AI art, but the gameplay is unique and satisfying.

Shadowbringers was just so good. The parts that really get me were in 5.3 and just… everything. Probably the best patch the game ever had. One quest in particular left me a blubbering mess (returning a certain crystal), even thinking about it now chokes me up. The voice acting is also just top notch the whole expansion.

Endwalker also had several moments that got me and basically the entire last zone (and the music. Omg).
