Or the Xbox One X, Xbox 360 E, the Switch OLED, 2DS, DS lite, Gameboy Advance SP, Sega Genesis 2, Sega Genesis 3, Sega Saturn 2? I certainly don’t remember this much discourse back then. It’s like every gamer on the internet has collective amnesia about mid generation refreshes and how they have existed since the dawn of console gaming.

And just like all those multitude of prior examples - no, they certainly will not release games that ONLY work on the mid cycle refresh device. Because that would be a really poor financial decision. And can you imagine the discourse if you had to buy a $700 console to replace your $500 console so you could play all the newest first party titles? On a device that has likely 4 years max before it is subplanted by the PS6? That would be a far more justified upset in my opinion.

It makes me feel icky to type it out… The terms “tranny” and “transvestite” were very common nomenclature in the 90s. In conversation, movies, television. Trans people were often a punchline. And absolutely existed.

I don’t want the devs to kill themselves for a game, obviously. I don’t think anyone does. People just want content updates for a property they love. In an industry that lays off people after they ship a game or starts work immediately on the franchise yearly $70 sequel, I just want a game developer that does better than that. That’s why the whole world waited patiently for the follow up to the GOTY of 2022 with Shadow of the Erdtree. Elden Ring didn’t get a ton of free content updates in that time, they didn’t make it a live service or offer mtx, and they didn’t pump out their massive expansion in an unreasonable time frame. They built an incredible game and incredible world, and then they continued development on the game they had poured their hearts into for years and spent the time they needed to create the expansion the game deserved, and at a reasonable price.

That’s a clever option too! I do like with mine that you can still choose to pull the door fully closed without any issue, but otherwise it’s locked in a fixed position so even if the cats get the zoomies the door doesn’t fly open as they dive through.

I got one of these for the bedroom because I was sick of using a stuffed animal to prop the door open for the cats.

I don’t read it so cynically, yes it’s in their best interest and a very smart play, but I don’t read malice into it though. Good business move, but also good for the communities and projects they’re contributing to.

Oh yeah also all arcade games with prizes are rigged. All of them. We literally have a setting that determines how often the game will allow wins.

One time on vacation, my little sister and I found a crane game in the game room of our hotel that was clearly over tuned - basically every button press was another win, it was great. We still remember it fondly. A stupid thing, but even at that age we knew these are usually scams and we we’re stoked to just basically get cheap toys.

I literally only get Marvel Snap/general gaming, College Humor, tech, educational, stand up comedy, and drones. That’s it. I don’t mean to victim blame, but it learns what you click and what you stay to watch.

I don’t know how the process worked exactly, but Nvidia had to payout $30 per card for the false advertising on the GTX 970. (In my head, I totally remember getting $100 per card for each mine and my wife’s, but the internet says it was $30. 🤷)

For that to be true, it would have needed to be worth $44B in the first place, which it absolutely was not. But there is no doubt that his mismanagement has tanked the value of the investment. He’s a narcissist so never see it that way, but the whole rest of the world knows that.

I remember being amazed when I hit 100 hours in Final Fantasy VII, thinking that a game could never match it. Then I put 12,000 hours into World of Warcraft over about 12 years, so I guess I lacked imagination. I don’t think in the rest of my life I will ever be able to beat that with a single game.

When I was in high school, they added 25 minutes to every day to build in snow days. If we did not use them, school just ended earlier than scheduled. This could serve basically the same function, to shorten the school year.

However, that’s not even necessarily a good thing for learning… I think year-round school is generally accepted to be the best way to learn having many shorter gaps rather than one long summer. I suppose it could build in an extra week or two of breaks normally not present in a year-round school schedule.

People on the internet have gotten so stupid, I’m not entirely sure whether this was meant as /s or not. Really an indictment on the internet as a whole.

But if moddability is a prerequisite for you on full price games, you’re probably due a lot of disappointment going forward as games continue to shift to GAS models (and honestly, if you’ve been beating this drum you’ve been real disappointed for the last decade anyways). Mods are a great experience for a single player game, but invite rampant cheating in competitive multiplayer games that need to be fair and balanced for all players. You’re just not going to see moddability in multiplayer games. And one certainly doesn’t have a right to interrupt or destroy other players’ enjoyment of a game because they want to cheat.

To be clear, I am not arguing against modding being allowed in games. I ran a VERY heavily modified UI in World of Warcraft, and have had a blast with tons of mods in games like Skyrim and Minecraft. It’s just not a hill I’ll die on either. Not every game can or should be modded.
