And from the comments I saw it gets worse for this bird - apparently after the bird flew off, the scientist who captured this call played it back to check they had recorded it properly, only for the bird to come back and start calling again.
These scientists accidentally played the cruelest prank imaginable on this poor bird, and it was likely not smart enough to ever realise it.

Particularly for physical injuries, I sometimes prefer to suffer as it reminds me that I need to be careful, which I know I’d forget if I subdued the pain.
Having said that, for things like flu’s where it’s just pure suffering for nothing, I’ll suck down as many painkillers as I can have in a day.

Fair enough. Subordinate is the term I’ve always heard used. Direct reports just sounds like the sugar coated version to me.

If you have access to the BIOS, you could always just underclock and undervolt the system to give more power efficiency.
Though a small server with a retroconsole attached is also not a bad idea for the excess juice.
True, but if you’re already replacing the mobo (say for an upgrade, which Framework laptops are designed to let you do), then you can use your old one for this rather than having to buy a Pi clone or some such
From my experience, the occasional nick is just a part of the process unfortunately.
I find that, similar to shaving one’s beard hairs, holding the skin taught tends to help. Also, just take your time - trying to be hasty guarantees you getting nicked.

As someone who has worked with academics, the more specialised the person, the less common sense they seem to hold onto.
As such, if this was outside their PhD specialisation, then it’d absolutely make sense that this wouldn’t occur to them.
