Looks interesting. I’m into PvE games, especially sci-fi ones, and I appreciate the fact that the dev is actively avoiding microtx. The aesthetic kind of reminds me of Death Stranding.

I probably won’t buy it very early on, but I would consider it if it was closer to release.

Spiral is Debian. Like Endeavor, it’s primarily a way to install Debian with a few sane defaults and graphical choosers to install other software. Otherwise, it’s just Debian.

Try it in a VM. I was surprised how fast it was even in that limited environment, and if not for the fact that I want/need a newer kernel, I might have chosen that one.

But otherwise, sounds like you’ve kind of already chosen.

The only time I haven’t been able to do something was with a VPN client that came as a self-executing tarball. Because it tries to mess with Network Manager on the fly, it doesn’t work correctly.

So there’s a handful of weird edge cases, but I agree that the majority can be solved with podman or distrobox.

You might look at Aurora or Bluefin, if Bazzite wasn’t your cup of tea. They’re more of a vanilla distro while being part of the Universal Blue family. They also have DX variants for devs, if that’s something you want.

I haven’t had trouble messing with configs on Bazzite, so I wonder what you need to tweak that isn’t possible on an immutable system.

Look into Spiral Linux if you want to go with Debian. I believe it includes several quality of life improvements while being mostly just an easy way to install Debian (kind of like how EndeavorOS is for Arch).

ETA: also, look at NixOS, since it might be the combination of stability and semi-mutability you’re looking for.

I noticed an issue in my rig with choppy framerates, and it was at least partly because the second SSD that was loading all the textures was overheating and throttling. I added a heatsink to it, and it fixed a lot of the problems.

Nouveau is not appropriate for gaming. NVK is potentially a contender for the RTX and above cards, but it’s still in development, so YMMV greatly.

Otherwise, you’re stuck with the proprietary drivers. You might see about installing an X11 session, though. I believe Bazzite installs both Wayland and X11 for Nvidia users for this reason.

Check your airflow. It could be that heat is building somewhere and being recycled into the intake.

Thermal Grizzly also makes a high performance pad (i.e. nothing wrong with using a properly-rated pad), so if you think yours is good, it’s probably airflow related.

This. I had a similar thing happen to a laptop, and it was indeed the CMOS battery.

I got a 1st Gen 3DS second hand some time ago. What I like:

• Pokemon, Zelda, and Animal Crossing.
• The 3D effect and dual cameras are neat, though a little gimmicky.

What I don’t like:

• The heavy reliance upon internet connectivity. I can’t change the details of the account on it without losing access to the downloaded games. I can’t even change it anyway, because the online store is closed.
• The control stick sucks. It’s good for a very flat control stick, but it doesn’t feel nice to use.
• Proprietary power connector.
• The viewing angle on the screen is pretty shallow.

I have a Steam Deck, and it’s just better in all respects. I get that it’s comparing a very new device against an old device, but I don’t really see a reason to pull out the 3DS when I could have a better experience on the SD.
