  • Dogs also love to wrestle over the stick/ball/… Think 2 dogs holding onto the same stick with their teeth while growling and pulling as hard as they can, they’re having fun.

The dog I grew up with (malamute) would fetch something once and then have you try to get it out of her mouth, which was impossible to win for a human, so you’d have to feign giving up and then she’d drop it. And if you then threw away the object again, she would give you “the look” after which she would saunter off and ignore you. So I’m pretty certain that she didn’t like fetching, but she loved wrestling and pulling.

  • Inspired by is not the same as based on. I don’t think that it can ever be canonical because the time period was never explored in depth by Frank Herbert himself, but I do think that the what ifs of this time period could make for a very interesting premise.

Either way, the showrunner is apparently Alison Schapker, who was also the primary showrunner for Altered Carbon, which I really liked. So I’m definitely going to give the first episode a chance :)

  • From imdb: “Ten thousand years before Paul Atreides joined the Fremen to lead an uprising on Arrakis to take down House Harkonen, two sisters (Valya and Tula Harkkonen) create the mysterious all-female order called the Bene Gesserit. In Dune Prophecy, the siblings combat forces that threaten the future of humankind.”.

Iirc, 10000 thousand years before Dune was the time of the Butler Jihad, when humankind fought against the thinking machines. So I think it’s a series based on apocryphal stories on how the feudal society in Dune came to be. Lots of creative freedom for the creators, kinda like Knights of the Old Republic was for Star Wars.

  • I’m afraid to admit that I have not, will do it this evening but until then I will remain ignorant.

Edit: Just skimmed through it because I couldn’t wait and the video did not change my opinion at all.

The presenter seems to be unaware that there exist glasses which reflect different amounts of light depending on the angle. Up north, where he lives, the angle of the sun is much lower in winter than in summer. There exists glass that is designed for that.

A large awning to create extra seasonal living space outside, sure, those are still great. Small window awnings like ik the thumbnail picture, definitely not, those are a waste of time and money.

I was also disappointed by how dismissive the presenter was of scientifically based findings that did not align with his feelings. Curtains work great.

  • Paradox DLC policy is why I don’t play Paradox games anymore.

If I were to only play 1 game ever, then the DLC system might be ok, it’s basically a subscription system. But since I’d only play a campaign every other year or so, I’m not going to fork out that much money for 1 campaign. And it’s way too annoying to play some game with obvious parts missing + in game ads, so now Paradox gets no more money from me.

    There’s a lot of variance.

My first cat could open doors and the fridge, was a master at hiding when something was up (he really did not like going to the vet) and once found, he would refuse to come out even for ham. Very cunning and smart, but also a poor hunter of mice and moles, he simply had no patience.

The second cat knew that he could technically open a door with his paw, if it was ajar, but he didn’t realize that he should move his head out of the way. He also thought that every exterior exit lead to a different world: if it was raining at the backdoor, then he asked you to open the garage door and so on, each time huffing in disappointment when it turned out to be raining there as well. He also didn’t like going to the vet and would start running away when he saw his crate, but when he inevitably encountered a closed door, then he would stay still and ask the nearest human to open it for him. Unlike the smart one, he was a very good mouser when he was young, a very patient and concentrated hunter.

  • An interesting find that I didn’t know about, so to Google I went :)

Apparently Lemmy communities can chose to disable downvotes. It’s apparently a simple setting, so Blahaj won’t be the only ones to have done so. Members of such a community are only able to upvote and will only see upvotes from other communities. And since that community server is responsible for syncing it’s own threads to other federated instances, it’s not going to collect the downvotes from the other Lemmy servers just to pass them on, so it only gathers + passes on upvotes. (If I understood it correctly)

It also means that the few downvotes that we are seeing on Blahaj are not representative. Imo it might be better to disable downvoting for all, if the post was made on a server that doesn’t sync downvotes.

  • This has got to be one of the most stupid memes ever.

The percentage of Soviet citizens that were put into prisons/gulag camps/colonies will have far exceeded the percentage of us citizens currently incarcerated in the usa, and in far more inhumane circumstances.

Unless the op is trying to deflect from the problems of the USA penal system by drawing attention to a far worse system, I don’t get the point of this meme.

  • I hope that you’ll be as fortunate as I was.

I knew something had changed when I was sitting in the living room one Sunday and realized that I could smell the food that I was making in the kitchen oven. I had not had that good a sense of smell since before I had had COVID.

The weekend after that, I did light work in the garden and I could work for hours without issue, while 2 weeks prior I had to stop after half an hour.

I did avoid any strenuous activities as long as I had long COVID, maybe this helped my recovery. I wasn’t going to go on a hiking trip or fight with bushes, if I couldn’t even do a half hour of light work without fainting. I could still do local walks, thanks to my country being as flat as a pancake.

One very big frustration I had, was the feeling of being perceived as an imposter. I was ill, but tests were unable to show anything wrong, as if it was all in my head. But now there’s definite scientific proof that long COVID really is a thing, even when traditional tests show nothing wrong with the patient.
