Funny you mention THAT game.
Not that I have anyyy insider knowledge, but great care was taken to avoid very specific things. Also who knows, had coromon exploded in popularity, maybe Nintendo would have bothered.

Saw videos/articles online that this was the “end of gamedev” or whatever.
While patents for games are shit, theyve been around a long time and are hard to enforce. Palworld made it incredibly easy for one of the most ruthless companies to go after them. I expected they waited to see the final game before taking action, and until palworld made a ridiculous amount of money.
I’ve worked on Pokemon clones that are commercially available, and while they didn’t sell as much as palworld, they took a bit more care designing around stuff

Hey
We are reaching you regarding your <profile experience> . See job
Unrealted but I made an account the day RIF stopped working, never went back. I used the new apps that were being spun up, and at the time I wasn’t able to create an account on any of the 3 options except lemmy.ml.
Does everyone think I’m tankie for that? And am I missing out on good content because lemmy.ml is banned/shunned?
International trade is complicated. I say US here but almost everyone put tarrifs on Chinese EVs. Germany’s economy for example heavily relies on the auto industry, and a collapse could mean a lot of problems.
You also don’t want a monopoly. If China are the only one’s selling cars, it won’t be long before they are no longer cheap. We speak of cars but it’s the same for food. You don’t want a foreign country to have an economic handle on your food.
It’s also worth noting that these other products are often cheaper because the people making them have a lower quality of life. We don’t want to end up in a race to the bottom.
Tarrifs means they add tax on specific things to discourage people from buying it. It’s used on foreign goods to make them more expensive than local stuff.
If Chinas EVs are cheaper than US one’s, american companies could go out of business and China could take control of the EV market. The US will basically add a tax to Chinese EVs so US one’s remain competitively priced in comparison
I was just saying I find Nintendo are slowrolling devs by waiting till the last minute to sue them. I guess it’s to make sure it’s a slam dunk
That’s why these things are always “so close” to being done. You hear the milestone is near, and then it disappears. I have a theory Nintendo waits for as long as they can so people invest a lot, then they send the papers. In a way it discourages people from even starting imo.
Edit: why is this being downvoted. Nintendo slowrolling developers is just like, my opinion man. It’s not controversial
Our government is far from great, plenty of shit to criticize. But poivrière is just a corporate shill. The fact they put him at the head of the conservative party tells you everything you need to know about conservatives. He even tried to make a Trump out of himself and start bringing name calling and personal attacks into politics. They want to go bold like Trump and gaslight the political laws everyone follows but them, especially the unwritten ones.
Canadians better show up next election and remember more than just this.
It’s probably fake, but if this bothers you then you should probably already have a physical cover for your camera.
He can ask the dimwit insurrectionists in prison if Trump is a man of his word. Actually maybe they can’t.
Freedom or something.
Those of us who collect classic game consoles and computers (here’s looking at you, AI reporter Benj Edwards) know the difficulty of keeping all that hardware not just working but instantly accessible with a simple press of a power button.
Meh, the answer is money. With money it’s easy.
Youre forgetting they get to decide what the excel looks like. Even if it costs them 5$ per person to get 1$ from them, all they need to show is the excel with employee costs going down to call it profit. The expenses paid out to friends and politicians “need to be spent anyway” so it’s not reallt “a loss”.
You should see the P&L of these companies and how they twist themselves into knots making the line go up
Actually it’s CEO guy thinking of spending 10$ on his politician buddy to strip you of 1$
If only it was because he’s old and senile. He knows now is the time to do whatever he can for his CEO buddies.
We knew who delisted the game, because steam doesn’t just do that.
“one fraudulent company from India”. Which part of this being Amazon’s walk out technology makes it not big tech, or a “weak ai story”?
AI is turning out to be a lot less promising than we thought, unless new breakthroughs are made the models are plateauing or even getting worse, at least relative to the amount of energy they consume… And companies like openai are in rush to sell you the idea for trillions of dollars before everyone realises the limits. Same as amazon trying to sell us Ai powered shopping.
So there was no speculation, you just hoped these articles straight up lied.
