I think two or three viable platforms was kind of the sweet spot. It’s not all dominated by one, but I also don’t have to shop around and subscribe to five different things if I want to get what I want legally. But you’re right that it’s a sticky issue that just doesn’t seem to have a good answer.

So here’s an unpopular opinion, but this isn’t a bad thing. It’s just not enough.

The biggest reason that legal, paid Streaming is so shitty these days, the reason people miss old Netflix, is that everything is spread across so many different platforms now. Back in the day, just having Netflix meant you had just about everything, and if you wanted more still you could get Hulu… and that was it. One, maybe two subscriptions, and you’re set. But now? Now you need half a dozen subscriptions and you’re still picking what things you won’t get. If content was more centralized again, that wouldn’t be a problem.

And if content was more centralized, that centralized platform would have PLENTY of subscribers, they wouldn’t need to add commercials and hike prices just to stay afloat. I mean… they’d do it anyway because capitalism enshittifies everything, but it wouldn’t be a do or fail situation for them.

The only thing I ever used the Paramount streaming for was Trek. I wouldn’t complain if Trek, ALL Trek, migrated to somewhere else that has other things I like, too.

Pretty much yeah. Mostly just “Yes, we know.” If they had any real chance of killing it off, they’d have done so before the game even launched. They’ll make a big show of looking into it, then grumpily admit there wasn’t technically any wrongdoing and, while they don’t support Palworld, they can’t actually stop it.

So you’ll see some things about how it fits in a car cup holder (Lots of others do too) or how one survived a fire (This is just how insulated bottles like that tend to work) and those are all… good enough… but they’re not why there’s so much hype. The Hype has been carefully engineered. The head of the company is a Marketing guy, and he basically imported Sneaker culture into a new industry. Stanley Cups are released on a limited basis, with partnerships producing only limited supplies. It’s induced scarcity and marketing, people are rushing to get one because if they don’t rush, there won’t be any more, and that makes more people want to rush to get one.

It’s just an insulated cup that is intentionally hard to find sometimes. That’s all.

One of my biggest complaints with the EGS is their anti-competitive actions. Rather than try to out compete, rather than try to be the better choice, they pay developers to only release games on their platform, flat out barring them from releasing on any other store. They don’t try to win your favor, they don’t try to be a pleasant experience, they just shortcut their way to being the only option, without a care for improving any of the other faults or shortcomings.

My next complaint is that Tencent has a 40% ownership share in Epic Games, and I make active efforts to not give them a dime.

Now compare what flying in the 60’s cost to what it costs today. If you want some magical luxury experience, you can fly First Class and get a comfortable seat with extra amenities and preferential treatment, but you’re still just buying the cheap tickets aren’t you.

Yes, the airline is squeezing every penny they can out of everything they can, and they’re doing it because consumers are dramatically more sensitive to price than quality. When you look at the booking selection and the available flights are all more or less going to get the job done, you and just about everyone else will pick the one that costs $20 less, completely ignoring the First Class option that costs $800+ more. It’s why everything seems to be shitty and cheap these days, quality goods and experiences still exist, but we don’t pay for quality when the economy option costs a third as much.

This has been my concern too. It’s great that we’re seeing some specific cases where Linux benchmarks faster than Windows, but that doesn’t mean a damn thing if the one thing I’m trying to play just full on won’t work.

Telling me that I can just also run Windows is counterproductive. If Windows will do everything I want, and Linux will do only some of what I want, now you’re trying to sell me on increased complexity and difficulties and learning a whole new system, without actually getting rid of the problems that come with running Windows in the first place.

For anyone who stopped reading at the headline, it’s because the material they were using didn’t reach the strength requirements of the project (5,000 psi), despite what previous tests had suggested (6,000 to 8,000 psi).
