The only Zelda-like I can think of right now is Tunic. I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s a great game. It’s on PC and all the major consoles. I’d say it’s more like the pre-N64 Zeldas than the open-world ones. Also has an in-game manual that’s 100% inspired by the manual that came with the first Zelda on NES. Incredibly charming game.

I really like DKR but I was never amazing at it. Especially the boss races. Killer soundtrack though. I listen to it more often than I play the game lol

In case you don’t know about it, there’s a cool site called Retro Achievements that has community-curated achievement sets for thousands of games (and leaderboards for specific tasks, like Mario 64’s Princess’ Secret Slide), and it integrates nicely with RetroArch and Dolphin (I haven’t looked into other emulators, but I’m sure there are other supported ones). It’s given me a great reason to play all my childhood games again, instead of playing them just to waste time.

Speaking of BK, I finished that set just last night and it was so satisfying. I’m sure you’d make short work of the DKR achievements!

Then there are other factors, like not being able to access certain versions (Nintendo offers only the Shindou version of SM64 because breaking an ancient single player game for fun is verboten).

Not even just out of spite. In a way its another form of “voting with one’s wallet”. It will affect their sales, and if their heads aren’t too far up their assess (like, sitting on their own shoulders), they’ll finally get a clue.

I haven’t had a crash happen on that screen but it takes its fucking time loading a non-paginated list of thousands of elements. And there’s no search bar IIRC. MS made this process as painful as possible and I’m convinced that that’s exactly the way they want it.

Exactly the same with me. Very occasional Mint user. I will never touch Win11, so when Win10 hits EoL I’m screwed if I haven’t learned to deal with the friction of learning Linux.

Hey fellow trumpet player! I played it for 7 years through middle and high school, and I even did jazz band in HS. I was third- then first chair in our top band, yet I still didn’t learn anything deeper than musical notation and major scales… Things like the circle of fifths, modes, even chord progressions? I now know they’re all pretty basic concepts, but back then they were a form of mysticism reserved for the gods of music. Thankfully all the basic stuff has stuck with me as if I never stopped playing, which has provided a priceless foundation. Oh, and very strong relative pitch!

I definitely plan to take ideas from here and there and evolve them, if only as homage to my composer heroes. Just as in game design, nothing is completely original anymore, and everyone “borrows” ideas all the time. Regarding drum patterns, definitely gonna tap into the works of Peart and Portnoy!

Man I’m sorry that that’s how you experience it. When I’m high I listen to my favorite music and zone the fuck out. The real world rarely enters my thoughts.

Often I’ll think about projects I want to work on and get mega inspired from random stuff I find on the internet. Of course, the motivation evaporates when I’m sober, but at least I took notes while I was blasted 😂
