  • Your collection of toy cars reminded me that I loved Hot Wheels as a kid in the '90s and early '00s. And I would often have to get more whenever we went to the store. Or at the very least see what they had. Luckily they were cheap so my parents were ok getting 1 or 2 each time.
I was also really good at remembering what ones I already had, so I knew at the store what ones I didn’t have.
It’s been a long time since I counted, but I amassed over 300 cars by the time I grew out of them.

  • I was able stop drinking pop fairly easily as a teen, but I still had problems with drinking other super sugary drinks like V8’s “fruit” juice or Simply Lemonade.
One thing I did was start drinking tea, particularly fruity flavors. Those are rather flavorful for teas and helped wean me off those other sugary drinks.
Plus with tea basically being flavored water, it made the jump to drinking straight up water even easier. I still drink tea, mind you, but I also drink a lot of straight water.

  • I recommend going through them when you think of it. I occasionally go through mine when I remember, and every time I’m reminded why I saved every single one of them. They all make me laugh or smile in some way or another and can legitimately be a good pick-me-up when things are rough.

Huh, I never knew of ARFID, but that fits me particularly well, especially as a kid. I will have to dig into this more.
For me, I found a relatively healthy comfort food (yogurt with granola; sometimes with berries) and have that for lunch most days. The granola makes it easy to load up on calories/carbs while it, and the yogurt, also provide a good amount of protein. Berries can add a bit of fiber. It’s always delicious for me. I’ve been eating it consistently for years now and I’ve yet to get sick of it. However if you’re lactose intolerant, this might not be a viable option.
Edit: reading the comments reminded me of another thing: protein shakes. I buy a container of whey protein mix from Walmart/Meijer and mix that with a glass of whole milk when I don’t have the energy to make anything. It is delicious. The strawberry one tastes like strawberry milk and the vanilla one tastes just like vanilla ice cream but in milk form.
Water can be used in place of milk if you don’t have any, or are intolerant, but it’s nowhere near as good; it’s just not the same.

It would be nice if I had more healthy comfort foods, but that’s a work in progress.
Otherwise I supplement with a multivitamin to make sure I’m not deficient in anything.
