The developer is involved. Though it’s pretty obvious that the push for this is from Sony, they are the publisher for the game.
So if it were clearly written on the Steam page, I don’t really get the complains.
It was optional for several months and the info on the PSN page contradicted that, so there was a lot of room for confusion.
Not surprisingly that PSN page was edited earlier today, but there’s a million screenshots floating around already, plus you can check the previous version in the Wayback Machine.
And even if it was clearly written on all places, it’s still a “too bad you didn’t read the fine print, now you’re past the limit time for a refund, so either let Sony track you or lose access to the game” situation which is very shitty. There’s also the fact that they sold the game to people in countries where is PSN is not available, which should not have happened if that requirement was going to be enforced in the future.
Not hard to see why people would get pissed and lose trust in the developer. I also think that players have been annoyed for a while with this type of requirement (not specifically in this game), and they are now getting a good outlet with a lot of publicity around to vent about it.
The review chart is hilarious.
Doubt Sony or the developer expected this would happen.
Edit [May/04, 14h UTC]: Updated chart. More than 70k negative reviews already.
I’d argue it’s the opposite, EO games have so many interesting builds to try that they’re among the most replayable dungeon crawler games.
If you have access to a PS4 or Nintendo Switch: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
A crazy and interesting sci-fi game, mixes point-and-click adventure with tower defense action stages. Story is amazing and I absolutely love Vanillaware’s 2D art.
There’s a long holiday next week so I probably will. :)
Playing… nothing. :( Well, I did beat the last boss and finish Minoria, but that’s about it.
If you like indie games, and if you enjoy puzzles and story, have you ever tried Ib? It’s a short indie psychological horror game that is all puzzles (no fighting), but really interesting.
Don’t think I’ve heard of that game before, will take a look.
It’s really annoying that there IS a level down option, but it only unlocks after beating the main story. :/
I’ve played Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight and I liked it a lot more than Minoria.
While it shares some of the design issues I mentioned with Minoria, it does offer an Easy mode and more combat options like ranged attacks which make it more enjoyable experience overall. The powerups and overall exploration is more fun too IMO.
Loved it. I’m not usually a fan of monster capture games, only managed to finish one Pokemon game (Alpha Sapphire) and even then I only did the bare mimum to see the ending because I was getting really bored.
This game however got me completely addicted, played it non-stop for 5 days to see the ending, and keep coming back for short play sections hunting Rogue Fusions or trying to complete the bestiary.
Left a mini-review in a post a few weeks ago: https://lemmy.world/comment/6623727
Finished Picross S5.
Me last week:
I won’t necessarily wait until I finish this one before starting another game
Yeah, that was a lie and I didn’t move on before 100% it. Now waiting for S6 to go on sale to pick it up.
Finished Cassette Beasts: Pier of the Unknown
Speaking of sales, I picked a couple of things that were on sale, and one of them was the Cassette Beasts DLC.
Now, overall this was a fun side-story, but it’s way too short. While $6 for a ~2 hours of entertainment wasn’t the worst purchase I’ve made, I was definitely expecting a bit more of content from this one.
Playing Minoria
Another one I picked up on sale, a Metroidvania from the same developers of Momodora. Overall it’s not a bad game, but it’s incredibly frustrating at times.
The damage numbers are crazy high in this game. Random mobs often hit you for 30-50% of your life bar, and some boss attacks can kill you from anything less than full health. Feels like this game was designed for people who love mastering boss patterns so they can beat them without taking a hit, which unfortunately is not something I enjoy.
At least it looks like I’m on the final battle, so it should be done soon.
Playing Witch on the Holy Night.
While I did more-or-less remember what was going on in the story before I paused this game, it was also fairly early in the story so I decided to start over. Almost done catching up to where I was before.
If you ask me why I’d have a hard time explaining, but this is a game that somehow “clicked” with me and I enjoyed it way too much. Played it non-stop on the Vita, then did the same when they first released the eX+ version on the PS4.
For those unfamiliar, it’s B-Team RPG from Falcom that mixes Ys-like gameplay with a story taking place on the current world, heavy on anime clichés and with some clear inspiration from Persona.
Oh, yeah, not exactly a surprise with this developer, but the music is great.
I understand it takes place in the same universe as Fate and Tsukihime, but is otherwise a completely self-contained story.
Since I’m still early on the game I can’t confirm this, but so far I had no issues following it and I know almost nothing about Fate - this game is my first foray into this universe.
I was thinking that VNs were more like “walking simulators,” where most of the action that takes place is pretty scripted but you explore the world and the story being presented by the devs.
Understandable, there’s a thin line between all the story-driven subgenres like VNs, “walking simulators” and point-and-click adventures. I just tend to group them together as well.
Generally we use the term VN for games where the ratio of reading vs interaction leans heavily towards the “reading” side. There’s even a type of VN called “Kinetic Novel” that has no interaction at all, it’s essentially a book with added visuals, sound and voices.
I guess it’s now time to promote you to community’s Official Head of VNs!
A PROMOTION! 😮
Does a victory dance
Code: Realize
I have this one on my backlog because I wanted to try an Otome game, but haven’t gotten the time to play yet.
Tsukihime Remake (releases in English this Summer, not otome)
Anxiously waiting for this.
Fate/ stay night Remastered (not otome, coming soon, literally announced today as it’s the game’s 20th anniversary)
Seriously?! Wow, fantastic news, I’ll definitely pick this one up.
I’ve had Famicom Detective on my wishlist for a while, but it has never gone on sale and I almost never pay full price for digital games.
But I’ll keep an eye on it.
There’s also the problem that they’re clearly rushing this without much thought, they don’t even have an answer to the obvious question of “what happens to people in regions not supported by PSN”.
