  • Pretty much every day. I think it’s because we have a limited capacity and for many of us our job requires us to mask to some degree and it just takes all of our energy, even if it isn’t physically or even intellectually demanding. There’s no reason I should feel completely drained and demotivated by just sending emails, but it is what it is.

    I try to go somewhere quiet and lay on the floor or something. Or literally touch grass - get feet in the dirt, listen to the wind in the trees, that sort of thing. And stay away from screens for a bit. I’m still trying to find ways to help regulate my nervous system since I need different things on different days but those are some of the most effective for me.






  • I loved reading through the manual for Morrowind with the copy we got on the original XBox. I read all the class descriptions, details about the schools of magic, and had a whole character planned out before starting the game. I didn’t get into tabletop gaming until much later, but looking back, that manual really captured the same feeling of reading through the D&D players handbook and picking out a race, class, background, etc.

    I think that feeling is why it’s still my favorite PC game.





  • A lot of tea for me, especially earthy flavors. Shou Puerh tea is like a magical grounding experience for me every time I drink it. I love coffee and drink that daily, but when I really need to just be I break into the puerh stash.

    For evenings I like a lot of herbal teas. Rooibos is probably my favorite. Lately I have been drinking a lot of lemon ginger tea with a splash of apple cider vinegar before bed.


  • It honestly changed my life when I started meeting with friends at specific times each week to lift weights. Having it be an actual appointment that would affect others if I didn’t show up made all the difference. I was super excited to be there and never missed a day.

    Then their schedules changed and they are no longer available when I am. I still like working out… but it’s so hard to make myself do it and I am super inconsistent now. It depresses me to think about it

    I need to get more. It is legit. I don’t know how the quality of the supermarket stuff but I had some from a local farmers market and it was awesome. The guy grows all the mushrooms himself and sells them fresh and dried and the extracts. He also sells the stuff to grow your own. But the fresh stuff he had was really helpful to me before I knew I had ADHD. I just thought I had brainfog but that stuff really helped with focus for me.

    I’m on meds now that help too but I’d like to get some more lions main as well




  • I use Cura 5.4 and the only changes I made were to the start and end gcode for the machine (per the guild I linked). After that, I did a few prints with my regular profiles, then started cranking up the speed a little at a time. So really the only setting I changed was the print speed and start / end gcode.

    The printer handled everything else - honestly it feels a little like magic to me, even though it’s just software. I’m a software engineer so I feel like I should have a better grasp of it, but printer firmware is pretty far outside of the type of work I do. One thing I do know is that Klipper manages acceleration itself and doesn’t use the acceleration gcodes sent from the slicer - those get ignored and Klipper decides how fast to accelerate (this is configurable using moonraker or the config files).

    I think the thing that makes the most difference in letting you print at higher speeds is the input shaping. I don’t understand all the inner workings, but it using the processing power on the raspberry pi to compensate for the vibration of the printer, letting you print much faster without getting artifacts in the print that affect quality.     I’m sure there are a lot of slicer and Klipper configurations that I can do to improve things even more as well





  • No, it's not excuses, it's just reality. It's hard. Does that mean people shouldn't try to do better and make things better? Of course not. Being better and doing better is hard, and we should do it anyway. That kind of personal growth is central to the human experience, or it ought to be.

    The thing is, just because people aren't doing better in the area that you understand and care about doesn't mean that they aren't in other areas that you may not know about.

    For example, someone who is stressed out and overburdened with work may be using all of their available energy to be a better parent and make sure that their child is raised in a healthy and emotionally stable home. If that doesn't leave room for people to support FOSS and privacy friendly browsers that's ok.

    Just be the best human you can be every day and don't beat yourself (or others) up for not being perfect.
