Just a guy on the internet, totally a human and not an alien, if that’s what you were wondering.
Alt-text descriptions should clearly convey both the content and the meaning of the image, and should aim to use as few words as needed. Describe what’s essential to understanding (and enjoying!) the intent of the posted photo — you don’t need to add in a sentence for every visual element, but should include as much as you need to create an accurate portrayal of the image. Cut out unnecessary words and combine separate sentences as much as possible. One to two sentences is usually more than enough room to describe what’s going on.
As mentioned before, these photos convey information to the people scrolling your page, even if you are just posting them to brighten up your feed. They have a purpose, and for that reason, alt text should focus more on the image’s meaning than its aesthetics. This means you’re not focused only on what the object in the photo looks like, but what it is and why it was posted.
I was hoping to see a format that people can easily follow and just fill in the blanks, but I suppose this is the gist of it: Describe the main purpose of the photo succinctly rather than each and every individual thing you can see.
Blasting music/videos on their shitty phone speaker in public. If you really don’t have headphones, at least turn it down or hold the speaker closer to your ear so you’re not just annoying everyone in a 10-meter radius.
Late-morning tea break
In a past thread on this topic, I’ve seen a few indie artists say that they benefit because Spotify amplifies their audience. They make crap on the streams, but a larger audience base is worth the trade-off since they’ll be able to sell more concert tickets and merchandise.
Of course. In fact, the most addictive kind is sparkling water
It’s great. I get all of the access to the Fediverse without really any of the connectivity issues I experienced on my lemmy.world account
Dry goods that don’t need to be prepared. Things like crackers and beef jerky are reliable choices.
One of the coolest experiences of my life was flying back to Portland from Chicago at night. Somewhere along the way, I looked out the window and off in the distance I noticed a lightning storm over a town. It was surreal how much lower the storm was than we were flying, and watching the lightning bolts branch out from the clouds to spread all over the place was just incredible.
I don’t fly often, so maybe that’s more common than I realize, but I thought it was pretty awesome.
Practically every day. I take public transportation so when I get home I’ll use a disinfectant wipe on it to kill any germs. It’s a habit that’s stuck with me since the pandemic and it’s just nice to have a clean phone.
Wait you built it? With like a kit or from scratch?
I’ve actually noticed that too. It’s odd that anyone would go to/sub to a community for cat pics and just downvote whole threads of comments regularly.
When I see it happen I like to throw a few upvotes to balance the scales again.
Hot is the best way to see new, good content consistently. Sorting by top or active will show about the same posts, in my experience.
I typically sort by top + all, then top + subscribed to see the most-engaged posts of the day first; afterwards if I still want to browse I sort by hot + subscribed or new + all.
But that’s just as easily avoided too. I only know what you’re talking about because I saw like 4 cringe atheist memes while broswing All once. I don’t subscribe to any of those pages and so I rarely see it, just like how one could easily avoid political discussion.
There’s are databases for Unclaimed Property online that might have money you didn’t know you were supposed to get. Searching for ‘your state + unclaimed property’ should return a .gov website for it. (disclaimer: I only know this is a thing in the USA)
Probably how we went to the moon and then later successfully sent a rover to Mars to study and take pictures. It’s something I can’t really explain on a technical level but it happened
We’ve come a long way regarding canning and food safety, I don’t think you’ll have any issues like the crews of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus had.
tldr; a short summary about the demise of John Franklin’s 1845 Arctic expedition. Many of the tinned rations were poorly sealed and contaminated with lead, leading to sickness, starvation and general tragedy for all involved. (If you think that sounds interesting there’s a 10-episode AMC dramatization called The Terror, which is how I learned about it)
I had way more fun drinking when I was a minor than as an adult. It’s not even about it being “taboo” but just not being as enjoyable to me anymore; now that weed is legal in my state I’ll smoke weekly but only drink maybe 5-10 times a year. I had a couple drinks (for the first time in ~3 months) at a BBQ this past weekend and it didn’t have any positive impact on my evening.
I rarely go to bars anymore but when I do I’ll have 1-2 beers and buy a food item to go with each one. It’s wild to remember I used to have like 6-10 drinks during a night out and eat nothing until I got back home and made a sloppy quesadilla or something.
It must be Big Microwave astroturfing again
That’s just the wish.com version of this. Instead of human hotel staff, that one only has raccoons & coyotes. 3/5 ⭐️
I recommend you check out TheFreePizzaDude on Imgur. There is a limit to how often you can receive donations (like once every other month), but they will help with getting you a pizza or even some regular groceries if you ask.
