  • For what it’s worth, Robin Walker and his team are working on the next half life after Alyx. Will that ever come out? I have no idea and I’m not expecting anything. Deadlock however is a game designed by one of the grandfathers of the moba genre, and has had over 20k concurrent players at any given time, and it wasn’t even announced with it’s existence only known through word of mouth. That’s insanely impressive and shows how huge the moba genre really is and how those players are thirsty for a new game from a big company. It sucks and I wish we had more sp valve games but I’m content with the work they’ve done on proton, steamos, the steam deck, steam itself, and half life alyx. They haven’t been sitting on their hands not doing anything, they’ve been putting their focus on more technical areas versus making games and that’s ok.

  • You really have no idea how intellectual property works do you? The reason they’ve gone after emulation and rom hosting sites is pretty obvious, they have to protect their IP.

Why they’ve waited so long only to do it now? I honestly don’t have an answer for you on that one, but if I were to guess it’s because retro gaming has been going through somewhat of a renaissance as of late due to shitty AAA games and indie devs gaining so much popularity.

The bottom line is Nintendo lost the emulation battle once, and they don’t want to lose a second time. They’re more experienced and understand the risks of letting emulation replace services like Nintendo switch online, and so do publishers that own intellectual property from retro consoles. It sucks, but that’s corporate life, and you can’t really get around it without jumping through hoops or doing something illegal.

  • When your MMR is high enough and the game you play has SBMM it can take a long time to find matches. Some argue that SBMM ruins practice and only puts you against people that you just can’t get any better at playing while increasing matchmaking times. This unfortunately promotes the smurfing culture, high skill players that create new accounts to stomp on lower skill players, thus ruining the experience for low skill players. Valve has recently taken a stand against smurfs in dota 2, but riot has yet to denounce any smurfing and I always see ads for league account sellers on twitch and YouTube to promote “lower MMR with all characters unlocked” or some shit, it’s absolutely disgusting.

  • Latest mesa + plasma 6.1.1 = janky as well

Window dodging recently broke on me so I can’t dodge windows on any of the panels properly anymore, was working great on 6.1. Certain windows will cause the desktop to lock up and I can’t click on any windows or icons in the panel task manager. The global menu only works half the time now. I’m getting severe mouse cursor stuttering on a 120Hz display on the desktop, certain games running proton that were fine before have micro stutter. It’s been a pretty terrible experience on the AMD side recently.

  • Look I get what you’re saying, but they’ve realistically made two stinkers, Andromeda and anthem, and I actually like Andromeda not to mention it was made by a completely different and brand new studio that probably shouldn’t have called themselves Bioware.

I also enjoyed inquisition, it was fun and had a ton of commercial success as well as a really good final expansion that was universally praised. I get Anthem really burned a ton of bridges, but it’s not on the scale that places like Reddit like to make you believe. The gameplay was legitimately fun, the story was awful and all over the place.

They rehash the same chip over and over again each generation with minimal gains, increase the power requirements and cut out third party oems like EVGA. Give it a couple generations and I would bet they’ll only be selling the 4080/90 equivalents in the future and let intel or amd have the midrange and low range market, freeing up manufacturing for their AI/ML hardware. Doesn’t matter if it’s conjecture, the writing is on the wall. People are choosing to ignore it even though the market is flooded with low end Nvidia cards made to look like their low and midrange offerings aren’t selling. It’s only a matter of time, the consumer graphics market is a second class citizen for Nvidia.
