  • I’d like to report that the more specialized a medical doctor is, the less common sense they have.

Had a doctor chew me out because he couldn’t be bothered to simply turn the computer on.

That was the issue. Pushing a button was beneath him. Cool man, I’m the only one here at this hour and the phones have to be manned constantly. That ticket can go to another department and wait until they come in morning.

Also, low priority and I noted that the doctor refused to simply turn it on.

I think that ticket sat there for over a month.

  • North Texas:

Cold Season: A pair of jeans, a metal band thsirt, and a hoody. I’ll probably wear the hoody as “outerwear” all week.

Hot Season: A pair of black cargo shorts, a metal band thshirt, and depending on activity - a hat.

At my current job, replace the metal band tshirt with a polo. Jeans always. And work is fucking cold, so usually a hoody too, even when its 100+ outside during the day (I work nights)

Edit: I will say my, “I’m staying home, not answering the door, and fuck everyone but my wife” outfit is my birthday suit.

I’m not a nudist, but I find comfort at home to be nude. It isn’t sexual, its just… free.

I mean, what is stopping parade drills at places like children’s hospitals?

Do it once a month, give those kids some magic back in their life.

Children’s hospitals suck, no matter how hard everyone is trying to be upbeat. You don’t get over conversations that include phrases like non-accidental trauma in a NICU. Someone beat the shit out of a baby already in the NICU. Hell holes.

  • Not to mention, it is entirely possible to get home from work, play, and then realize you are now late for work.

Its just engaging on a level that most modern game’s can’t hope to achieve.

Hell, I’ve installed a game (old), then installed mods, then resolved all the mod issues, then launch it to realize I don’t actually want to play it.

Factorio? Mods are easy, and vanilla is enough to keep someone occupied and happy if they lack internet or something.

Its light weight too, it costs me virtually nothing to install it on anything that can run it.

I have an analog clock in my man cave. Its very steam punk in design. It is NOT accurate and is ONLY a decoration piece that gets corrected when I can spare the attention. It runs fast, if anyone cares.

Ultimately, my wife liked it, bought it for me, and put it up. Not gonna upset her over something I really don’t care about.

  • Honestly, I pay for top of line parts. I realize I’m limitiing myself on good games, but…

I paid for this shit, I try to keep top of the line because it is still my hobby (though, my time doesn’t allow anymore) and I want to push my hardware.

Low bit games, however good, don’t get a chance because… god damn, I expect better. I’m a 80s baby, and 90s kid. Nickelodeon early nick toons are my jam.

I paid for it, let me experience it.

I want to PUSH my hardware, and fine tune for play-ability, as expenses allow.

That being said, I love MMOs and realize how hard they can be to “upgrade” for all users… but damn, I don’t have the time or energy anymore. I wish I could raid EQ bosses like I was 13 on summer break, but I fucking can’t.

At the end of the day, I hope creative minds create new paradigms in gaming with limited resources. At this point, it is the only way we will grow. AAA studios make rehashes of former successes, which fail, and no one wants them. Gameplay has died, its been several years, and as an “old-head” (Quest for Glory 1 was my first PC game, with parser prompts) and I miss games. Even those are simple by today’s standard - but they still stand up in a shorter format.

  • From a long time nicotine user, I’ll address your bullet points.

Intense: A combination of no tolerance with being sensitive to it.

How do people enjoy: You’re sensitive to it, what you described sounds like a case of nicotine poisoning. When I started vaping and rolled my own coils and all that jazz, I experimented a lot and consumed way too much nicotine in the beginning. The happiness is a lie, as well as the help with anxiety. Nicotine withdrawal feels very similar to being anxious at some stages. It is relief of those withdrawal symptoms that people associate with less anxiety or even happiness.

Are the symptoms related: I could not tell you that.

Addicted: Unlikely you’d be addicted after a single use case, that being said, it feels awful, but the awful tapers after about 3 days - the future cravings mean you’re addicted, in the most tell tale way. I use nicotine pouches as I’ve moved away from smoking. I still want a good old fashioned Marlboro Red, AKA cowboy killers.

Why do people want to keep it up? Often its a situational thing. You smoke with friends on the weekend, but not during the week. Then its daily, because you start feeling withdrawal. Soon you’re smoking a pack a day ten years later kicking yourself for ever trying it.

If you (or anyone else) can avoid nicotine, I advise it wholeheartedly. The simplest way is just not to start, cliched as that may be.

Pretty sure checking a post on their site, say for a BG3 build idea, doesn’t constitute abuse.

The powers that be sacrificed their only value, their user base, to make money quick. We’ll see how it plays out long term, but I’ve moved away from social media. My lemmy use is only on my desktop at this point, and I get precious little time at it, so most of it isn’t spent on lemmy.

  • That makes me wonder.

I don’t, or rather, can’t picture things in my mind.

I always thought that phrase was just a phrase, it had some archaic reference but the phrase remained or some shit.

Nope. Turns out I just lack that ability.

That being said, for those of us who can’t or just don’t picture things, would our pupils adjust the same way?
