And a little light ball, like a reflection off a watch face, that sometimes appears that just randomly moves around and, importantly, can be “caught” (as in has a physical presence, sometimes).

TIL my external hard drives use micro 3b. I didn’t realize that was a standard… figured it was a proprietary to prevent using the wrong cable…
I’ve had it with shoddy c ports on various devices, including a phone (thankfully had wireless charging also). The connection pin thingy breaks off pretty easily, and causes the same issue you described for several weeks/months ahead of the actual breakoff, where it has to be in exactly the right position (and wiggling it to hit the right position obviously exacerbates the problem).
I’ve actually bought some magnetic chargers for the more fragile electronics, so I never have to put strain on the port…
Iirc part of the reason for sterile releases is to shift the populations. So for example they release them for malaria-carrying sub-populations but leave intact clean populations to fill in the niche.
There’s also some experimentation with releasing fully fertile specimens that have a specific gut bacteria which makes them unable to carry some of the diseases impacting humans, and is passed down to the young.
If you go with the invite approach, I would desperately like to join you despite not being on beehaw itself at the moment. I was actually planning to sign up for the ultra-curated experience, after finding that both “uncurated” and “lightly curated” are not awesome for me, but then I came across this info a few days back, and figured I should hold off; Idk what your policy is at the moment for taking new users if you plan to move.
Increasingly I’m disenchanted with Lemmy as a whole, it doesn’t feel welcoming or communal, and would like to go with you when you move to a different fedi platform, but because I’m not part of your server now, I have no idea when that’s going to happen or anything. And I don’t want to miss out :(
Nothing particularly special, but I like buying cheap all-metal $5 lamp bases and repainting them. Because holy shit are lamps expensive.
My favorite so far has a multi-spiral body with a leaf-shaped light diffuser under the bulb, which I painted with chameleon paints, so depending on the time of day/color of light it’s a variety of different colors (mostly purples, blues, and greens). It lives in my very bright living room for optimal effect.
I’m almost 40 and still get carded a lot…
Not at bars. They don’t care and haven’t since I was 18. But my chosen place to buy beer has a 100% carding policy regardless of age, so it doesn’t even feel nice. :( I just have my card ready before I get there so they are just like “ooh your totally on top of it!” That feels alright.
About a week ago I got carded for a video game rated M. First time that’s ever happened in my entire life, no joke… I’m still salty about that.
So I’m faceblind, but really good with voices.
And she might be in other stuff, but I’ve not found it. I did find Lori petty in an episode of Star Trek, can’t even see her face for most of it.
Maybe because I’m not really into the “might as well be porn” genre of stuff (watched xena, Hercules, beast master, andromeda, and cleopatra 2525 as late night shit when I was a pre-teen, but I’m asexual and not into horny and never have been so I was into the storyline bad as it was), and thus unlikely to encounter her.
Of course, I have taste ;)
Plus lost in space (old and new), Star Trek, red dwarf, quantum leap, Babylon 5, sliders, Lexx, millennium, neverwhere…
I have 30tb of stuff on my Plex, mostly sci-fi/fantasy. And I’ve watched the majority of it because I have no life :)
The stuff on my Plex that doesn’t fit my genres wasn’t downloaded for me. But there isn’t much of that overall, maybe 500gb.
Sci-fi/fantasy is basically all I watch :)
Not the really old stuff; 90s-today mostly. That one just slipped through my memory cracks for a long long time, and my memories were far fonder than it deserved.
Bahahaha I got a friend to watch the first few episodes of that not too long ago, specifically because of the song. I hadn’t seen it since it was on late night tv.
It’s so much worse than I remember, like they were trying to shoot a porn but forgot the actual sex part.
Years ago, I made a special long-distance trek to a specific animal rehab center just to hold a baby spider monkey. They took animals from other zoos across the country being shut down for abuses, so they were real careful with their charges.
It was one of the best things I’ve experienced. She was adorable and clingy. And I got to pet (nose) and feed an adult male hippo the same day because they had him penned to clean his enclosure. Fucking terrifying, that; he was super gentle, but if he’d wanted out, that pen wasn’t stopping him.
You put a baby monkey sign out and I’m as good as baited. Every time. I’d probably fall for a lamb or kid (goat kind not human kind) or really any baby animal, as long as mama is chill with it.
At first I was like man, that person has a lot of sunflower seeds stocked up, that must have been a lot of sunflowers in their yard, but good for them…
But nope, these are just shells. Hopefully these shells haven’t been in anyone’s mouth…Imagine the mold at the bottom of that tote…
Why would anyone keep this? What do you do with them at this point? Assuming they were seasoned, you can’t really use them as mulch (salt), so like maybe compost, but even then adding that much salt all at once wouldn’t be doing your pile any favors…
Isn’t it though, isn’t it?
But cmon, if you don’t want do deal with the gag reflex, should you really be developing the neck?
Ooh aren’t we all… ;)
Be the change you want to see in the world, my friend!
That’s cool and all, but it doesn’t beat a cat drone, an ostrich that flies, or a cowcopter. :D
True. I suppose it’s just because I know how things actually played out with TOS, and it was just jarring and unexpected.
I did like that he was debating sticking around, that felt pretty human, but the blatant sexism was uncomfortable. That bit about “not used to a woman on the bridge… oh but your different…” suuuuper cringe and unnecessary. :p
I’m glad I watched it, but I’m also glad that’s not how it got made, ultimately.
That’s so meta I’d actually be interested to see how they pull it off…
Poorly, that’s a given, but beyond that.
