It’s only been one month, and it’s the best job I’ve ever had. The freedom is nice being WFH, but even when I go into the office, people are armed with nerf guns, and the kitchenette fridge is stocked with beers for Friday mini happy hour.

I just recently got a WFH job, and outside of meetings, 80% of my day is spent bobbing my head to music while working. I do have to pause sometimes when something isn’t clicking and I need to shift my focus and sometimes literally read out loud what I’m reading. Then the music comes back once I remember that I paused it.

I would say some unfiltered shit at any moron that handed me something like this. It would probably be exactly what they want, but I would belittle them with every fiber of my being in the hopes that something sticks and they feel bad. It would make me feel a little better, but I am also a big man child sometimes.

Yep. I decided to try a quick search and it sounds like it’s a common issue. Switched back to x11 and I’m stable again.

I’m on KDE Arch and switched about a week ago. I have an Nvidia card and went straight from x11 to Wayland plasma 6. It’s definitely prettier and smoother, but it’s absolutely not as stable. Idk if that’s an Nvidia things, a Wayland thing, or a plasma 6 thing, but I definitely have fairly consistent display issues after switching. I have a btrfs snapshot from right before I updated that’s at plasma 5, so I have a fallback if I want it. It’s mostly just an inconvenience right now, so I’ll probably just ride it out for a while and see if things improve.

I think that being a cop offsets her volunteer work. Until the entire profession is reformed, then ACAB, including your SIL. I’m sure she’s a fine person, but as long as she’s a member of the police gang, she’s one of them.

I probably could have watched a couple of 10 min videos before jumping into the wiki just to get an idea of the process b fore getting so deep. The initial setup instructions are pretty good, it’s just those deviation points where you get to decide your path that gets confusing. I first did an old laptop and got that going after many hours. When I committed to my desktop, it went smoother, but I opted to go with btrfs and snapshots without Grub, and that took a hot minute to figure out. Now I have piece of mind from my snapshots, which is great for trying new things. So far, I’ve been very happy with my setup, and it’s been very stable. Now I need to get Wayland and plasma 6 going with my Nvidia card. I got a bit hung up on setting the kernel mode stuff, and haven’t really gone back in a while, so it’s time.

I went straight from windows to Arch. I had used Ubuntu for a couple of weeks 10+ years ago. The arch wiki is a great resource and I was able to follow it to get up and running. However, there are things that aren’t detailed enough (like literally hold your hand) on some things the wiki expects you to know. Now, maybe starting with Arch is not the best path, so that’s probably mostly on me. I think that since there are so many different ways to do things, that following some of the instructions can be difficult for a user’s specific case. Boot loaders where my biggest hangup early on since I didn’t want to use Grub. Modifying boot loaders, setting up pacman hooks, learning and configuring different file systems, and learning how the config and system files is tough, and the wiki has all of the info to do it, but it’s not always linear. I wish there were more practical code examples and/or short videos showing exactly what files to modify and how to do it right.

I use private internet access (pia). It’s reasonably priced, really good for the number of devices, and I don’t believe they keep logs. At least it used to be that way, but I haven’t checked that since I signed up a decade ago. I have had zero issues with anything or anyone while using it for any reason. Uptime is basically 100%. Also has mobile support if that matters.

I will have to look into that as an option. Always open to alternatives.

One of the reasons that I use Google photos is for the automatic backup of pictures I take. I’m working towards self hosting, and I haven’t got to this one yet, but that service is pretty nice. Also, when I’m traveling, I’ll take a handful pictures side by side, and Google will stitch a panorama for me. I spend time snowboarding in the mountains and hiking in tropical areas, and that’s the best way to capture a landscape that I’ve used.

Vaping was integral to me quitting smoking. Vaping isn’t the problem, advertising and accessibility of nicotine to youths is the real issue.

No it doesn’t. It’s an act that literally every person on this platform has heard of. Saying smoking, drinking, drugs, etc, does not promote the action or product. What trying to censor it does is make what you’re saying, confusing. Your message has a lack of information and seriousness, so the effects of what you’re trying to express are going to be lost on a lot of readers.

I get what you’re saying and empathize with your beliefs, but if you’re dealing with adults, you need to use the language to adequately articulate your point. While I may agree with your sentiment, the censor immediately puts your comment at a disadvantage and, at least personally, I write off the subject of it almost immediately.

Just don’t go out and say, “go smoke and drink” when discussing those topics, and I think that’s good enough to qualify as not promoting those things. Just my two cents. Not trying to be a dick if it comes off that way, just trying to give some outside perspective.
