  • If Article 5 is invoked, Russia ceases to exist overnight.

The evening of the first day Russia fucks up, the US demonstrates why Americans don’t have healthcare. It swoops in with a couple dozen stealth fighters, eliminates air-defence, decapitates the entire chain of command, then levels every military and military-adjacent structure from west to east and east to west and south to north at the same time. I sincerely doubt a single American life would be lost.

By morning, there’s nothing of consequence left, and regular NATO fighters have control of the skies, taking out leftover smaller targets and industrial infrastructure… and that’s it, game over.

  • Let’s not forget that his shithead junkie brother cancelled MOST of Transit City – a plan developed & designed for maximum impact for the least expense… Costing the city of Toronto nearly $100M in wasted work and cancellation penalties (which massively benefitted developers).

He fought like hell for the city to build subways rather than surface rail on a separated grade from cars, which is far cheaper, and nearly as effective as subways when approaching streetcars get priority from traffic lights.

  • The hypocrisy is what gets me… Yeah, axe the tax… But let the forests keep burning, the rain keep flooding, the heat keep broiling people and droughts starving us…

It’s not rocket surgery… Make the thing that is bad for us more expensive, and use that money to make things that are good for us LESS expensive. I still don’t know why there isn’t a tax on gasoline and diesel and natural gas that doesn’t DIRECTLY fund public transit…

  • In case you were wondering why CN and CPKC are fighting so hard against this… It amounts to a rounding error on their balance sheet at the end of the year. They’ve spent nearly $10 BILLION on stock buybacks since the start of the pandemic.

They could double the number of unionized workers, and it would make practically no difference to their bottom line. They could triple the union’s demands, and again, the real-world cost in dollars in negligible, but the real-world improvement in safety and standard of living for the workers would be incredible.

But they won’t do it without being forced, because… greed.

  • If the government gets involved, it should mandate that the union gets 2x or 3x their demands. 7% raise? Now it’s 14%. 14 days vacation? Now it’s 28. Unions are asking to reduce shifts from 16 hours to 12? Congratulations. Now it’s 8.

If companies force the government to get involved, it’s the companies that should get fucked in the ass with a stick for dicking around.
